Chapter 7
The school week went by quickly in Jack's mind. Everyday seemed to go by to fast for his liking. He couldn't help but feel he was walking around in a daze, once again everything in his life seemed to good to be true. He had even received the chance to speak to his old friend Callie about how well things were going, at the moment Jack could do no wrong. His eighteenth birthday was tomorrow and Gabriela was leaning against him under the stars. Her trip to Lexington was pushed to the following week, something Jack definitely wasn't upset about, especially since it had landed them in this situation. Earlier in the morning Jack convinced her to go on a picnic with him outside of town, to just hang out, they brought a football and some speakers in Jack's car and it had been a great time. It was getting late though, and the stars were certainly as beautiful as Jack's girlfriend.
Jack kissed her on the cheek softly as she started doze off, “Hey listen there is one more thing I need to talk to you about.”
Gabriela nodded snuggling deeper into his side, “I'm listening,”
Sighing Jack started, “Things could get really hectic tomorrow. No matter what happens though, you have made me very...happy. Somethings may happen that I can't explain right now, but if I leave I swear to you on everything that matters to me, I will come back to you as soon as I can. Big change is coming, I don't want you be caught off guard. I honestly have no idea what could happen tomorrow, but I can say that my parents were trying to prepare me for it my entire life. My only wish is that we had known each other for longer so you could be there through all of it. I would still like you to come over and have lunch with all of us, but I don't honestly know what could happen next.”
Pushing away from Jack a little bit she came nose to nose with him where Gabriela stared deeply into his eyes. Jack always loved and hated when she did this, he felt like she could read his soul when she stared so deeply, “I've known all week Jack. I've known something big was going to go down, you keep peering over your shoulder as if your expecting something to go wrong, your fidgety and clearly nervous. It got even worse once we were out of school yesterday, I just didn't want to push you to tell me something you either didn't want me to know or weren't ready for me to know. I am with you Jack, but if something happens I understand. It won't be the first time someone has left me.”
Jack felt his heart ache at that statement, “I won't leave you intentionally not today, not tomorrow, not in the foreseeable future. I like you Gabriela, I enjoy my time with you a lot. The only downside to our relationship is it makes Brody a tad jealous, but even that isn't so bad. My Godfather is a bit of an oddball, so also prepare yourself for certain word traps, he will try and get it all out of you. He was an interrogator after all.”
Grinning slightly Gabriela cheekily replied, “My dad was a bit of a politician so I am quite talented in the ways of side stepping questions. Between the two of us I think we can keep him at bay.”
Jack smoothly kissed her on the lips and they laid on the hood of the car for a little while longer. They were only about thirty minutes outside of town and Jack knew it was time to start heading back, Tiberius would already be at the house waiting for him. However Gabriela had fallen asleep in his arms, and she looked so peaceful. He gently picked her up with ease and slid her into the passenger seat with her groaning slightly as she left his arms. He smiled at the moment he wouldn't likely forget as he started his way over towards the driver seat. However something caught his eye. It was a most peculiar site and he had to check himself to make sure that he wasn't causing it. However he was almost sure, that his magic wasn't fluctuating at the moment. The pointed stick however was forcing itself high into the air beginning to point itself down at an angle. Jack watched with a fascinated look, still not sure how he was causing this to happen. Suddenly the stick lurched straight at him and Jack barked the word, “Clipeum.”
