Chapter 15
The oldest Wilder's eyes fluttered open slowly. The adjustment to the light was painful, but he was trying to get a clear view of his surroundings. He knew he had to be in heaven, for all he could see was a white tile ceiling. He tried to move his hands and feet to learn he could move his feet. He tried to figure out what was wrong with his hands, until he tried to sit up and saw what was keeping his hands from moving. Jack was no longer sure if he was in heaven or not, the beautiful face with her eyes closed facing him suggested that he might be looking at an angel, but he knew that Gabriela should never have been in the presence of danger that would have brought her here with him. She looked so peaceful, and Jack blushed lightly realizing that not only was he alive, but the angel whose eyes he thought he had looked into when he summoned the portal were his beautiful betroths. Jack was lightly hooked up to a machine and the rest of the room was fairly tiny. There were several cards laying down on the nearby table, and flowers sitting next to Gabriela. Jack now realized that he was being watched though through a glass window. A doctor that he instantly recognized was smiling at him as she walked into the room, “Lord Wilder, I hope this will not be a constant point in our relationship.”
Lady Montrez, or as she liked to be called Rosy was now looking over the machines and examining Jack with critical eyes. Jack tried to speak, but his throat was parched. He managed to squeeze a few words out, “I didn't know you were a doctor?”
“Ah Lord Wilder there is many things you do not know about me. First I will say that normally no I am not a doctor, however I am very much qualified to be one. When you were injured last Friday afternoon, Lord Sparrow brought you straight here, he knew I would be able to keep you safe in this manor. Of course since of our families are allies I saw no reason to object to these claims. As my family has a history of biochemistry and medicine I was able to scramble a room up real quick to treat you.” Rosy explained as she started to unhook Jack from the machines.
Jack shook his head lightly, “Why hasn't she woken up yet? Did you say last Friday? What day is it now?”
Lady Montrez pulled up a chair and took a seat, “Your bethroth is under some heavy sleeping medicine that I hit her with. She hadn't been sleeping very well so I gave her something to give her a nice twelve hours of sleep. That was about ten hours ago so she could wake up at anytime. As to what day it is, its now Thursday September 21st. You have been down for six days now Jack. Your magical stores were nearly depleted. The first three days were the worse, we weren't sure you were going to survive. But once we saw your magical aura flare one afternoon, we knew that process to recovery had begun. Your magic must be back at one hundred percent, or your body would not have awoken. Your ribs were healed by magic so other than probably hunger and dehydration you are at one hundred percent.”
She handed Jack a cup of water and he slowly took in the liquid in hope of maximizing its cool abilities, “Why didn't they just take me to a regular hospital? The magical world does have them right?”
Rosy reached over for a newspaper article and quickly handed it to Jack, “Your Godfather and friends paid me pretty good to keep you here safe and sound. They also asked that I would inform you of the tidle wave of press support you have received while you were out!”
Jack pushed away the newspaper for a moment, “What about my brother? Who has been taking care of him? How is Julian, did he surive?”
She held her hands in the air, “Lets take this slowly now. First off your brother has been well taken care of. He has been taken to school everyday by guards of the USDA, but he has been watched over by Gabriela in your time of absense. He also spends a lot of time in here or in Julian's room. So to answer your other question yes Julian is alive. His legs were broken though, and in the non-magical world he would have been paralyzed by the magic that was done to him, but with my help we were able to save his legs fairly easy. He is having a hard time walking, but that is only temprorary. He is already being tended to by Lord Sparrow in Sparrow Manor. The two are getting along marvelously as Julian's magic unlocked at around eight o'clock that night. His memories have been restored and his power, while not huge, is under control and most importantly unlocked. The tide of that battle could have gone very differently had Julian had his full magical stores.”
