Chapter song: From the Dining Table by Harry Styles.
"What exactly did you two do, because I know for a fact it wasn't 'testing your peculiarity'."
Emma quirks an eyebrow at me as I take off the hat.
"I don't understand?" I ask.
"Oh, Vivian. If you were testing your powers, I don't think you would've forgotten your book. I me-"
"Emma, that's all that happened I forgot it, and didn't feel like coming back." I lie.
"Oh... okay. Sorry for pestering you." She says and crawls back into bed.
"It's alright." I say.
"I don't suppose you're going to sleep?" I ask and sit on my bed.
"Not now." She says and turns on her side.
"Good, because I have a question." I say and hear little snores.
I roll my eyes and look out the window.
The sun is just starting to rise and the birds start chirping. I rub my eyes and grab my guitar. I start mindlessly picking the strings softly. I tune the ones that are slightly out of tune and start playing From the Dining Table. I hum along quietly as I watch the sun. I stop playing my guitar and set it down. In the process my eyes land on my dad's journal. I pick it up and flip to the first page.
This journal belongs to:
Jackson Lee Stein.
I thumb through the pages and a little picture falls out. It's of my mum, and my father. Strange, she has a baby bump... she told me he left when he found out? If he didn't know by that he's one dumb- wait. I flip the picture over and almost start crying.
For Vivian,
I'm sorry. That's a great way to start a letter, that you'll probably never see. Anyway, Vivian... my lovely daughter. I'm sorry that I had to leave you and your mother, I was needed at another loop to help some children with their peculiarity... a particular one that includes water... one that I hope you posses. This journal has everything you need to know in it.
We posses a certain water peculiarity that is extremely rare, one that takes years to master but, in order to "unlock" this trait, you must master every water peculiarity additions (as I like to call them). And yes, this includes becoming a mermaid, don't worry it's easy. I suggest finding the biggest book you can on water peculiarities and reading it front to back, mastering each addition as you go along. But, be careful and don't strain yourself.
I hope you've found Miss Peregrines loop safely... I love you, my little water droplet.... your mother told be to scratch that out... I'm not... and she slapped my arm.
much love,
your father.I look at the picture and slightly smile at the man who is holding my mother lovingly. I put the picture back and close the notebook. I check the clock,
6:58.
I stand up and make my way to the stairs. I stop when I hear muffles coming from the kitchen. I slightly lean down to get a better listen.
"Miss Peregrine! You have to send her somewhere else." A very feminine voice says.
"Olive! It is preposterous, I am not sending Vivian away just because she is making friends." Miss Peregrine scolds. Olive. What could she possibly be blabbing about?
I slowly creep down the stairs and peek around the corner, and into the kitchen.
"Miss Peregrine! I think her and Enoch are
more than friends! I think they're-""That is enough! Now go wake up the others, breakfast is almost ready." Miss Peregrine says. Olive slightly frowns and nods, walking away quickly. I turn the corner completely and accidentally bump into her.
"Whoops, sorry. Didn't see you there." I say with a fake smile. She just nods and continues walking.
"Good morning Miss Peregrine." I say to the woman with a smile.
"You're up early Miss Stein." She says and glances at me before returning her gaze out the window.
"Couldn't sleep." I say.
"That's not good, something on your mind?" She asks and turns to face me. I fiddle with my fingers and nod a little.
"Well, me and Enoch-"
"Enoch and I."
"Right, sorry. Enoch and I, got into a fight yesterday about the dumbest thing... he was just trying to help me and I got mad." I say and look at my feet, all of what I was saying being completely true... obviously.
"Oh... did you apologize?"
"Of course, but I can't tell if he's still mad at me." I lie a little, I mean... we did have sex right after and he seemed to care about me then, but he is a boy and they're confusing.
"You should ask him, after breakfast. Would you like some tea?" She asks and the tea pot starts hissing.
"Sure." I say with a small smile. She nods and turns to it, pouring me a cup and handing it to me. I sip it a little and set it onto the small table, so it doesn't burn my hand, we all know that has happened way too many times.
I hear footsteps behind me and I turn around. Enoch winks at me before heading to the basement.
"I should go talk to him." I say and walk after him.
I knock on the door and it swings open. I try my best to ignore all the dolls as I enter, Enoch closes the door behind me.
"You know, it's weird." I mumble and turn to face him.
"What is?" He asks and sits at his work bench.
"We were fighting yesterday, and just a few hours ago we... you know." I say. He furrows his eyebrows.
"Did you not like it?" He asks.
"No! That's not what I meant... normally when people argue they don't talk to each other for days." I say and watch as he stands up and walks over to me.
"So I was good then?" He asks, a small smirk on his lips.
"Ye- wait.." I say as I catch on to what he's doing, "I don't remember." I say, smirking back as he wraps an arm around my waist and pulling me closer to him.
"I guess I'll have to refresh your memory then." He says with a wink.
"I think you should."
I wanted to apologize again for this being such a late update. I had major writers block and this is the outcome, one very uneventful and boring chapter.
