Star Crest High School was a very prestigious high school made for only those of high standards. In other words it was for rich people. The school was a very large building made of bricks but was painted dark blue. The large sign that read "Welcome to Star Crest High School. Home of the Eagles" was the first thing that would catch one's attention. The front lawn was beautiful as was the flowers that lined the pathway leading to the front doors.
The student parking lot was towards the side of the school. Sarah's old truck stood out against the other shiny cars parked all around. Sarah came from a wealthy family and could have any vehicle she wanted but she loved her old truck because it was a gift from her grandfather before he died.
We got out and went around to the front of the school together. "Hey weirdo" said a boy that was sitting on the front steps to Sarah. "Sup rat boy" she retorted which caught the boy by surprise. He had a small face and big ears and it didn't help that his nose was pointy either.
People always picked on Sarah but she never let it bother her. She always said 'Nobody can make me feel bad about my personality' with a positive smile and always had some good comebacks.
We passed the boy and entered the school going straight to our lockers, which in a cliché way were beside each other.
"Coming through!" said two voices that I knew all too well. On instinct I cringed before looking around to see the sea of students make a path for Alexandria and Ashley to pass by. As if the universe were against me they made their way towards me.
"Miranda dear, mother says you should be home by 4:00" says Ashley as she looks at her nails. "What? That's impossible, school ends at 3:45, besides I have practice" I say with disbelief. They snicker before Alexandria says "Not our problem" and they walk away.
"You ok there?" asks Sarah as she rubs my back. "This is unbelievable" I say with a forced laugh as I turn to my locker and slam it shut. I have a bad habit of slamming things. "Let's just go explain to coach that you have something important to do" she says to me in a reassuring tone. I nodded my head and we both headed to the teachers' lounge.
We knocked the door and luckily the person to answer the door was Ms. Hart. Chelsea Hart is a gym teacher and also the girls' soccer team coach. She had pretty blonde hair that was in a ponytail and lively shimmering green eyes. She was 25 years old and was 6 feet tall.
"Hey there Miranda, Sarah. What's up?" she asked. "I kinda came to ask a favor of you" I said. "Ok, shoot" she said as she eased into a comfortable stance, ready to listen. "My step mother wants me to be home early so I'm kinda gonna have to miss practice today " I told her. "That's the third time this week Miranda, are you sure you can manage this. You have to remember you're the captain here" she said to me with a sympathetic look in her eyes.
Yes that's right, I'm the captain of the girl's soccer team. "Yes I can Ms. Hart. I'll just go extra hard at the next practice" I told her hoping that she would agree. She looked at me for a thoughtful second before she gave in and said "Ok Miranda, make sure. You're off for today". "Thank you so much Ms. Hart" I said with a big smile. "Don't mention it" she said as she jogged away, leaving Sarah and I behind her.
We weren't allowed to run in the halls, but there goes a teacher breaking the rules. I loved the way she was carefree and fun loving. Ms. Hart was by far the best teacher ever.
"Sarah, have I ever told you I hate my life?" I asked her. "One time too many" she said nonchalantly. The bell rang overhead and we both headed to homeroom.

"What are you getting Mira?" asked Sarah. I looked up at the school menu board and decided on getting a grilled cheese sandwich with a bottle of orange juice. Sarah got herself a Caesar salad and a bottle of orange juice as well.
We went over to our usual table and got settled as we started our lunches. Sarah occasionally tapped on her phone. I would have loved to have a cellphone, but my stepmother didn't allow it. Both my stepsisters however had cellphones of their own. If I wanted to talk to anyone I would have to use the house phone, but I chose against it because they would often listen into my conversations.
After I was through with my lunch I went to throw away my garbage. However, on my way back to my table I fell over something and landed on the floor. I looked up and saw a pair of wintery blue eyes staring down at me. The owner of the eyes started to laugh as I got up.
Ashton Grey was known as the notorious bad boy of Star Crest High. With his 6 feet 3 inches stance he was pretty intimidating. He has soft black hair that complemented his eyes and gave him a cute yet mysterious look if that was even possible.
Beside him was his best friend or as I would call it, second in command Drake Henry who was also laughing. He had black hair that was spiked up with stormy grey eyes and a lip piercing.
"Grey" I sneered at him with the best glare I could make. "Burke" he said as he stopped laughing. "Don't you think it's a little desperate of you to be falling for me already?" he asked with a smirk. My face heated up as my anger boiled.
I looked around the cafeteria to see that the place was quiet and we now had everyone's attention. Ashton's lunch caught my gaze and a wicked thought came to mind. Quickly I grabbed the bowl of spaghetti and meatballs and spilled it's contents on Ashton.
He gasped as he jumped to his feet and grabbed Drake's box of milk and returned the favor to me.
I then turned to the table nearest to me and grabbed the first thing I could which ended up being a bowl of mashed potatoes and dumped it on Ashton. As he was getting ready to grab something else a loud voice boomed through out the cafeteria saying "Enough!"
We spun around and saw Principal Powell coming over to us. He glared at us and gestures for us to follow.
We followed reluctantly as we followed behind him. Sarah gave me a sad smile in which I returned as I exited the room.
Inside the office Mr. Powell started talking to us. "What is the meaning of this?"
"She started it" said Ashton while pointing an accusing finger at me. "You're the one who tripped me" I shouted in my defense. "Be quiet" said Mr. Powell in a too calm tone, immediately silencing both of us.
"You both will have detention tomorrow and every Friday after that for the rest of the month. You will also be helping out at the school's fund raiser on Saturday" he said to us in a matter of fact tone. We knew better than to argue so instead we nodded our heads then he dismissed us.
I stormed out of the office and went straight to the bathroom to get cleaned up. I'm already getting detention, do it wouldn't hurt if I skipped the rest of the day, would it? No it wouldn't and that's what I did. I skipped the rest of the day.
