The substitute

Chapter 6

I wake up from my gorgeous dream and force myself to get out of bed and into the living room. I lay on my couch and when I'm about to fall asleep again. I hear a very familiar voice "hey Zoe." Nate says casually as he changes the channel on the T.V. I didn't even notice his presence until he actually spoke, he was sitting on the couch in front of me. How did I not notice him? "Um hi." I say groaning of how loud the T.V is "Zoe do you want to talk about what happened at Ihop?" He says nervously, my face turns into a frown. I knew we were going to talk about this, but I didn't know we'd talk about this the minute I woke up like really it hasn't even been a minute yet "um no." I say and he frowns. "Maybe a little later." I say I have the biggest headache in the world and I don't even know why "can you lower the volume on the T.V?" I ask him and he obeys my command but he lowers it just a few notches the TV is still loud though. As things couldn't get any louder my mother barges through the room "ZOOEY ARCHER!" My mother yells making my headache even worse. I open my mouth wanting to say something, but my mother cuts me off "I can believe you! talking to guys with tattoos and piercings! Have I taught you anything!" She screams "what are you talking about?" I ask her "you can stop acting like you don't know a damn thing, Nate told me everything from how you met him to how you talk to him everyday!" She screams.
I glare at Nate and he starts to shift uncomfortably, who does he think he is? First he hides a secret from me then he tattles to my mom, and it's not even a big deal I have no idea why she's making a whole scene. "I'm sorry mother I won't do it again." I tell her "I just don't want him to ruin your internship honey." She tells me, how does talking to someone ruins my internship? I decide not to argue with her "I know." I tell her and she gives me a hug I hug her back and once we break from our hug everything goes back to normal she goes to her room leaving both of us in the living room. I should tell Nate to stop telling on me, but I don't. I want to move past this stupid argument."Hey can you take me to Toys R Us I need to get games for the kids." I tell him and he nods.
We finally arrive at Toys R Us and buy this charade game, Jenga, and some cards. I check my phone and find a message from mrs.smith
* I left my other half of tests in my desk so we're going to have to move the free day on Tuesday really sorry!
* it's fine see you Tuesday!

It's finally Monday, I stopped going to IHOP because I don't want to see anyone with tattoos anymore. It's funny how a whole gang goes to IHOP for breakfast I laugh at the irony. I rid my thoughts of everything and focus on the only thing right now, my meeting with the principal of Hudson University. I take a quick shower and change into skinny jeans, my plain white shirt, I curl my hair, and wear my black flats. I run out the door and I get inside my moms car "Zooey this is your only shot don't mess it up." She demands "wow thanks for the advice" I whisper quietly luckily she didn't hear me.
The ride to Hudson University was a two hour ride, When we arrive my stomach gets this weird nervous feeling and I hate it so much, I wish I could be calm, but I'm not I'm always so nervous even during the simplest things. "You okay?" Nate asks me "Ya just a little car sick." I lie if I say I'm nervous he'll just say the same thing to 'calm down' and honestly it doesn't help.
We enter this big white building and I see a desk. On the desk there's a little tab that says 'Main Desk' on it I walk up to the desk and a woman with blond hair and brown eyes stands behind the desk "may I help you?" The girl asks me " I have an appointment with the principal." I say unsurely I hope I don't be this awkward when I talk to the principal. "Name please?" She asks "Zooey Archer." I say "Oh Ms.Archer yes I will speak to Mr.Gates right now." She says with a big smile on her face. "You can go in, its the last door on your left." She says smiling "Ok thank you." I go inside while my mother and Nate wait for me at main office.
I make it to the door that says 'principal' in gold I'm not sure If I should just knock or open the door. As I'm about to knock on the door the principle opens the door "Ms.Archer it's a pleasure to finally meet you come in, sit down make yourself comfortable." He says smiling I sit down on the chair across from him and it's surprisingly comfortable. "Its an honor to be here Mr.Gates." "So I'm going to ask you a couple of questions Ms.Archer if that's fine with you?" He asks "Ya that's fine." I tell him "Who's your favorite author?" This is not what I expected I thought he was going to tell me about my schedule. "Um do you mind if I ask why are you asking me these questions?" I ask him I hope he doesn't think I'm being rude I'm just curious. " Ms.Archer you can ask me any question it's fine." He assures me I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding. "And to answer your question there is a school called Green Hill Community College, one of their English teachers broke his leg from skiing, it's going to take six months for his leg to recover we haven't found a substitute that could teach for a whole six months so we were looking for some students capable for substituting. And when we looked at your application we saw that you are a straight 'A' student and you're also a student teacher so you have experience with teaching we had to choose you."
"But Mr.Gates I don't mean to be rude or anything, but we are in Hudson University not Green Hill Community College." I tell him Green Hill sounds very familiar, I take a minute to realize Louis once told me he goes to that college and his friends goes there too that can't be good. "I know Ms.Archer, but Green Hill is really close to Hudson so if they have a problem they go to us for help and we have to help them, the more we help the better our reputation gets." He says I remember Louis telling me that the two colleges are close to each other but he never told me that Hudson helps Green Hill. "If I accept this....job?" I'm not sure if this is an internship or a job "Yes you can call it a job." He answers my question do I get paid? I don't say it out loud, but I really hope I do "how will this affect me?" I ask him "Oh Ms. Archer this is a big deal anyone will hire you." He assures me "Okay." I say with a smile "Oh thank you for agreeing to this Ms.Archer I know this is a lot since you have school, your internship and this I will assure you that you will get paid, but let me just ask you some questions okay?" He asks I really want to know how much he's paying me, but I don't ask him "The school years ending anyway." I try to assure him and he smiles at me.
When I finally answered all of his questions he tells me that he will show this to the principal of Green Hill and he will let me know if I got the job. "Do you mind if you give me your number so I can just call you when I get the answer?" He asks "Ya sure." I give him a warm smile, I write my number down on a piece of paper and hand it to him. "Thank you so much Ms.Archer you're a big help." He says "You can call me Zoe." I say, he gives me a small chuckle "Zoe." He says "And you don't have to thank me I'm the one who's supposed to be thanking you." I tell him and he smiles at me " I can't wait to see you again in September." He tells me "Ya me too." I tell him and leave the room when I enter the lobby my mother stands up from her chair and rushes to me "What happened?" She asks me frantically "I'll tell you when we get home and don't be scared he loved me." I tell her and she relaxes "That's my girl." She says and I smile at her wow I've been smiling a lot lately, but honestly I can't help it.
We finally make it to the car when Nate grabs my hand and tells my mother to wait a minute, she nods her head and waits for us in the car. When I'm about to ask him where we're going he gives me the most passionate kiss ever. "Woah Nate what's gotten in to you." I say laughing "Remember I'm supposed to tell you what I've been hiding." He tells me my smile that has been on most of the day has been turned to a frown. He has really bad timing I know he said it was a surprise, but I kinda knew he was lying. "What is it?" I ask him, nervousness takes over my body "I'm moving." He tells me. What? my body freezes. This is surely not what I was expecting once again.
