Chapter 1
~~~~~~~
I let out a breath as my head hits the ceiling of the van for about the forth time as we dip into another pothole. These roads approaching the borderlands have been cracked and broken.
"Sorry." Wy apologizes as he slows down a bit.
Lana shakes her head beside me. "Just keep driving. We're all wanted right now anyways."
I glance outside the tinted window of the van as I watch the busted roads. I feel the sharp sting of a needle stabbing through my skin and hiss while grabbing the back of my head.
"We're never gonna get this done if you keep fidgeting." Junior says sternly to me as he continues to give me stitches.
I roll my eyes and hold my tongue. The back of my head was bruised and bloody but thanks to Junior's advanced healing, it's all better.
I just wish he wasn't an ass about it.
He could barely withstand a pun- forget it. It's not worth it to fight with him. Our relationship as siblings is fleeting and seeing how he's part in this saving the red wings shit, I kinda have to get along with him.
Lana strokes my hand and looks at me with eyes full of understanding.
Honestly, I don't get her at the moment. One second she's fragile, another second passes and she's strong and mysterious, and then the next she's a lovable teenage girl.
There's parts of me like that too. There's parts of everyone just sometimes not as obvious as others.
But what happened back at the town, she never told us she could shoot darts or anything.
Flashbacks of that night still haunt me even if it was a few days ago. Von's blood is on my hands even if it wasn't my first kill.
The town where I lived almost my whole life is now a place that I want to block from my memory banks forever.
Finding the black wings is all that's important right now. Junior and I need to properly awaken, whatever the hell that means.
We've been driving for about 3 days. Our food is gone and we have no intention of buying any with our faces plastered everywhere.
All of this happening sends spirals through my thoughts.
The nightmares sent by the red winged king aren't exactly helping either. I still have to help the poor red winged sage from being manipulated by the king.
Add that to the list.
"Oh shit is this it?" I hear Wy question.
Junior stops his idle hands from the stitches and looks ahead with Lana and I.
Large walls greet us as we drive closer. It looks like they touch the sky it's unbelievable. Nobody could fly over that. The walls look like their made of some indescribable stone I've never seen before.
The guards, there's so many. They all wear armor and hold large guns that make my stomach turn. They pace back and forth just looking for something to shoot.
Lana passes a bag to us to put on disguises. She wears a blonde wig while I apply a fake beard. Junior has a fake nose that fits his baby face perfectly and Wy wears a brown wig under his beanie with a goatee. At the last minute I put on glasses.
"You look like you're homeless." Junior jokes at Wy.
Wy looks up in the rear view mirror. "Stop being so nosy Junior."
