Chapter 4
~~~~~~~
"Ace, Ace wake up." I hear a soothing voice call and feel my left arm being nudged.
My eyes crack open and the morning dusk greets me. The early bits of sun rays creep into our tree, signaling the start of the new day.
I look next to me and find a sleepy Lana stretching her arms while yawning.
"Damn I could use another hour." I slightly complain while releasing from the warmth of my covers.
I'm not a morning person as if it weren't evident enough. Still, the excitement of seeing the temple with Junior does put a spring in my step.
Lana carefully stands up on the mattress and I notice she's wearing my shirt. I didn't take it off.
"Um." Is all I simply say to her as she glances down at the fabric and blushes.
"Sorry. You were sweating through it and I got cold and didn't feel like getting my bag." She embarrassingly explains while taking it off back to just her tank-top.
"What is it with you and taking my shirts?" I ask her while grinning.
Lana rolls her eyes. "It's not like that stupid. Come on, Nadie said there's breakfast by the fire down there."
"What about Wy and Junior?"
"Wy was down there already at the promise of food, so was your brother."
"Of course." I mutter while unzipping the net and hopping down very elegantly
Lana follows behind me, landing on the ground in a roll.
"Show-off." I tell her as she comes up.
She laughs and takes my hand. "Hopefully there's not a lot of footwork involved in your training."
We walk to a tiny bon fire with a bunch of people sitting around and eating. I find Wy and Junior in the middle of some people.
A lady approaches us and hands us a plate. There's berries, meat of a rabbit I think, and bits of tomato on the side.
I don't mind it and take a seat beside Junior. We eat in relative silence simply eavesdropping on other people's conversations.
"Yeah, the whole northern section was taken by those bastards. They killed almost everyone in sight." A loud man across from us partially yells with a thick accent.
"Clyde, do you mind? There's children here." A women says sternly to him while pulling a child in closer to her.
"Oh just because there's children here! They're going to bloody find out sooner or later! Hopefully they won't have to witness it first-hand at the blade of-"
"Clyde that enough!"
"They kill without thinking! I've seen it with me own eyes. Fuck the prophecy, the saviors can't do shit about this." Clyde mutters while taking a bit out of his rabbit.
The woman covers the child's ears at his swearing and looks distraughtly at the ground.
I exchange a glance with Junior and remain quiet. I can only imagine what's been going in the other sections of black wings. So many deaths just for one man's power.
Nadie comes into view walking over to us without food. She waits for Junior and I as we finish our plates.
"How was your first night?" She asks calmly while picking up a little girl in her arms.
The girl grins up a toothless smiles up at her and Nadie tickles her stomach while putting her back on the ground.
"Pretty nice. I never knew a tree could be that comfortable." I say to her.
