Chapter 12
~~~~~~~~
I grunt while I stab a hanging dummy upwards through the fake armor. I pull out my blade while waiting for another dummy to come flying out.
It's been 4 and a half months since I've received this sword. I've successfully mastered different styles of fighting with both hands.
Believe me, it sounds fast paced but it was like this sword was made to be wielded by my own hands. Excessive training has been almost effortless.
A moving dummy is sent towards me with a swinging arm. I duck underneath it and make a swift cut at the arm holding the blade.
Half of the arm comes off clean from the slice at the socket and the dummy's shield swings to hit me. I roll dodge it and bring up my sword to its defenseless neck. For show, I cut off the head.
"Ace, moderation please." Hern's annoying tone rings in my ears.
Hern was let back into the camp about 2 weeks ago and allowed full access like nothing ever happened. Our relationship was been cold and he makes sure to watch me practice.
Let's just say, this isn't the first dummy without a head in his presence.
I watch as Wy walks over to the fallen head and tosses it towards his chest. "Don't get aHEAD of yourself Hern."
I roll my eyes at another stupid pun. After telling Wy the joys of being in this barely fighting army, he felt compelled to join. Wy was put in my squad. He didn't have any problems joining, he even sleeps in the barracks.
Personally, my patch of dirt is plenty comfy.
Surprisingly he convinced Junior to enlist with him. He doesn't do much fighting, he's there for healing with the medical units.
I do feel partially guilty for leaving Lana alone but she's insisted that she doesn't mind.
I still have yet to tell her of my death.
Like I said it's been almost 5 months and I still can't bring myself to accept it. I've always been strong in the face of death countless times, it's just feels like there's a timer counting down the time I have left in my life.
"SHIT!" Hern's shouting brings me back to my senses.
I raise an eyebrow. "What's wrong? His pun wasn't that bad."
He shakes his head and I notice he has a finger in his left ear. "The southern section closest to the walls are under red winged fire! I'm sending your squad and a few others!"
Hern runs off and by the first step he takes sprinting, an eerie siren wails for all to hear. Troops that were training stand in fear.
"SQUADS 4 THROUGH 12, GET YOUR GEAR AND FLY IN FORMATION TO THE SOUTHERN WALL ASAP!" One of the veterans orders while we salut.
We're dismissed and we scramble for the rest of our weapons. I put on my armor and helmet. I load up my spears and sheath my blade. I wait for Wy and we transform in a quicker way like they showed us and we take off with the other squads.
"Red wings, thought they'd attack sooner?" Wy tweets in question to me once we're up in the calming sky.
I gulp down and take a whiff of fresh air. This better not be a trap to lure me to them. If it is, I don't have time to prepare for death's sickening embrace.
But then again, does anyone?
"Fuckers gave us time to get ready. Dumbassess will regret it." I tweet back in confidence.
