"baby you look

                    h  a p p i e r

           you do."

Kian is taking me to the beach for my birthday. I haven't been the same since dad passed away. I sauntered next to Kian as we walked down the boardwalk. We turned the corner to reveal four picnic tables shaded by a linen canopy. People littered the area.

"Close your eyes love."

I did as told.

Shuffling and giggles filled my brain.

"Open."

My family. Kian surprised me with all of our closest friends and family.

"Why?"

"Because I wanted everyone to see this."

He bent down on one knee and smiled.

Tears welled into my eyes, threatening to spill.

"Jade Melody Matthews. I know right now you're having a hard time dealing with things but I want to be there for all of it. I want to be there for everything you go through. You've made me change in a way I will never be able to explain. I love you. I love every syllable that comes out of your beautiful mouth. Every step you take captures every aspect of my attention. You make me so happy. Every second I'm with you is nostalgia. Euphoria. I want you to grow with me. Spiritually, emotionally, and physically. I love you. Marry me."

It feels like my knees seized to exist. I fell into his arms sobbing.

Oh geez I must look crazy.

I looked into his brown eyes. His too were welling with tears.

"Yes."

"Yes?"

"Yes."

"Yes!" He bellows.

My heart swells with joy as I look at him. I can feel my dad's approval from above. A little piece of my heart gets super glued back in place.

I never knew wedding planning was so hard.

Tyler has been helping me with everything. He is more accepting of Kian now. Not quite "best friends" but close.

Now Matt was a different story. He got an apartment without me knowing and moved out while I was out one day. It broke my heart knowing he didn't accept Kian and I getting married. Dakota apologised to me for Matthew's behavior lately.

Today we're at a community pool. I'm sitting in a chair reading about Gwen Stefani's miracle babies at 47. Kian is playing marco polo with Jc and Connor. They're like children I swear. But he's my child. I giggle at the thought of a little kian running around. Days like this make me forget about what's going to happen in September. By that of course i mean my wedding day. The words send chills throughout my body. Thinking about the sounds of the piano playing our getaway song makes my stomach twist and turn.

"Babe."

"Yeah?" I looked up from my planner.

"Close your eyes," I heard his footsteps coming towards the patio where I'm laying.

I closed them willingly. Something was placed onto my lap. It was hard. I opened my eyes to find a purple book with calligraphy on the front. "I'm always tired but never of you?" I read the cover.

"It's true."

"KIAN'S WHIPPED!" Connor and Jc yell in unison.

I laugh at them. Flipping through the book i felt like i time traveled. Screenshots of our messages, my application to Writ3 Co, Pictures he took of me when i wasn't looking, a picture of us on our first date, and one when he proposed. After that the book was blank. "Where's the rest?"

"To be determined," he smiled down at me with that beautiful smile i love. I sat down the book on my chair and stood on my toes to wrap my arms around his neck. He got the hint after i couldn't manage to and picked me up.

I don't know how my life got this good. I mean, it's surreal. After all this time i still can't believe I'm getting married to this goof. I'm glad the world is on my side.
