=======================================
A/N: This chapter should have been uploaded before Chapter 8 as it takes place immediately after the fire. I had to skip it at the time because I did not like how it came out and wanted to redo it before uploading it. While I have not properly edited it yet, I feel like this chapter is too integral to the story for me to leave it out any longer. Since my laptop usage is currently limited, I'll be making edits on the move. Hope you enjoy <3

==================================
Samuel Kiln and Jessica Jiles -a.k.a. Spray tan and Sniper- were grateful for the fact that they parked so far from the Cane estate. When the house exploded and the sirens began wailing, they didn't have to worry about sticking around for too long. They were able to slip away and be on their way, actually driving right past a sleek black cop car.
"What the hell was a Krag doing there? Of all the bloody immigrants that could have been hanging around Cane, it just had to be those African monstrosities," Jiles scowled. She was at the wheel and speeding down the road at a few miles over 50.
"Woman, just shut the hell up. My freaking arm is burning like hell. Did you have to shoot me back there too?" Kiln complained. He clutched his wounded arm, wincing. He knew why his companion had shot him, but that didn’t stop him from being pissed off about it.
"Killing a monster like that is worth sacrificing one of us for it. You should know that," and Kiln did.
Neither of them needed to discuss what happened any further. Kiln was Japanese and had been living there when the Krags were stationed in Japan as well. Even though he didn't have any personal dealings with them, he'd heard tales of the red-headed beast with brown skin. The one named Carman had apparently gone on a wild rampage that caused the great Tokyo blaze years ago. Despite officials reporting that the boy was human, it should have been obvious that it was a family of monsters in human bodies.
It took around an hour for them to arrive at the nearest Helix stronghold, but neither of them felt relief while getting out of the car. They were a man short and there were at least two witnesses pinning the gang to the crime this time.
As they walked into one of the fanciest hotels on the island, heads began turning. They used the back entrance like they were supposed to and therefor knew that all those faces were Helix.
Kiln and Jiles walked straight through the quiet entry room and began the elevator ride to the boss' floor.
Upon entering, the two faced a petite blonde secretary that looked far too stunning to be working as a useless assistant. There was no doubt in Jessica's mind that their boss had probably drugged her till she didn't even realize her potential. "Where is the other one?" she asked, eyeing the two advocates.
"He's dead. We need to speak to the boss," Kiln barked angrily. He was not a fan of pushy or dominant women, so being in a room with two of them grated on his nerves immensely.
"How could he be dead? There were no guards on the estate. Your orders were to enter when-" she ducked as Kiln threw a pebble from outside at her head.
I take orders from Holland, not you, Susan,"he sneered venomously.
The secretary rose back into her chair and dusted her top carefully while composing herself. She pressed a button and a few moments later the only other door in the room opened up for them. "Mr. Holland will see you now."
"Damn right,"he grumbled under his breath.
Their boss was a middle-aged man that had somehow managed to keep his youthful charm intact over the years. He sat behind a glass desk fiddling with some strange equipment. Fabrics, needles, vials of opaque fluids, and even pieces of fancy-looking tech were strewn out across the table when the two walked in. They stood firm as if lining up for inspection.
"Sir, we were unable to acquire the drug formula, so we proceeded with plan B as you ordered." Jiles spoke up first.
"I see. Where is McConnell? He was assigned to be your third?" Holland asked, rising to his feet.
"He's dead, sir. We had concluded the search and were preparing the failsafe when the little Cane arrived with backup. It was a Krag, sir."
"A Krag? That's impossible. I have confirmation that the detective was on Kawaii from morning." Their boss stared them down in disbelief.
"No, sir, not The Krag, she meant one of them. I believe it was one of the detective's older children. He had the glowing yellow eyes and dyed hair along with the unmistakable strength of a monster. He killed McConnell before setting off the explosions," Kiln said. He neglected to point out that his former partner was probably still very much alive before they set the fires. He just preferred to cast more of the blame toward his enemies than himself.
Holland wasn't buying it.
"If it was just one boy, then why didn't you just shoot him?"
"We-" he started to defend.
"Why didn't you hold the Cane hostage?"
"That was-" Jessica tried.
'You had at least five incendiary rounds for that rifle! Why didn't you just assassinate him from the very moment that pest showed up?" Holland roared, slamming his fist on the hardened glass table.
Kiln and Jiles knew they needed to shut up. Nothing they said could make the situation better for them now.
"On your knees," he said, suddenly calm and composed. He turned to a piece of fabric on the desk and retrieved a pair of black gloves.
"Sir?"
"I shall not repeat myself," he said while slipping on the gloves. The two obeyed in the hopes that it would lessen whatever punishment they had coming. "It seems like you two haven't been given enough incentive. Mr. White has asked me to send him some of my best advocates."
Jessica wanted to literally jump at the chance, but she remained still. Only saying, "That is us, boss. We won't let you down!"
Holland walked over to where they knelt and stood between them. He said bluntly, "He needs a few berserkers that can fight to the death. He needs assassins that can snipe till the last breath. What he needs, are monsters that can destroy everything in his way. I think you two will become...just...what...he needs." His gloved hands took hold of their faces.
From the room outside, all Susan the secretary heard for the next ten minutes were screams of agony and then monstrous howls. She, very cleverly, drowned the cries with beats from her headphones.
This is what happens to people who are rude to secretaries... ;)
