There are moments when I'm writing part of a story and I just stop and stare at the screen thinking, 'omg this got so sappy so quickly...' and then my face melts into an indestructible grin and I can't bring myself to change it. I am totally changing these titles at some point though ;3
====================
"It was the Helix that killed your parents."
"What...?" Kyle's black eyes widened and he turned to face the darker male.
"The Helix caused the accident that murdered your family. They were targeting the Canes specifically because of what your parents knew about the cure. That whole accident was just the way they tried to bury the formula all together. The car that blindsided yours was stolen and the driver was compelled. He didn't even remember getting in the car that night."
Kyle was struck speechless. He rose to his feet staring incredulously at his closest friend. "What are you saying, Ryan? How long have you known about this? Have you told the police?"
"I've known since they decided to put you under protection. The chief of the department told me himself the night I brought you in."
The last living Cane was livid. His eyes widened in rage and disbelief. His hands balled into fist and it was clear that he wanted to hit someone. "You've been lying to me this whole time! You knew that my family was murdered and you let me think it was just an accident. You kept that secret for months!"
"Yes, I did," Ryan said evenly.
His blunt response was unacceptable for Kyle. "I can't- you're unbelievable," he said frustrated.
He turned away to storm off, but Ryan was up in the blink of an eye. His left hand reached out and grabbed the smaller male right above the waist, holding onto his right side to keep him from moving.
"Let me go, or else," he shouted, but Ryan didn't flinch.
"Or else what? You'll go throw yourself off another bridge?" he growled suddenly furious. He pulled Kyle closer so that they were face to face and eye to eye. "When we met you were a suicidal teenager who looked like he had forgotten how to bloody feed himself! You screamed at me and fought me to let you go kill yourself. Was I supposed to trust you?"
""You—"
"I what? I kept a secret to stop you from going off the deep end. Do you want me to say sorry for lying? I'm not! If I didn't think you'd changed then I would still be keeping it from you. I'm not sorry for that," Ryan said roughly. His hand would probably leave a new bruise considering how tightly he was holding on, but that wasn't his concern. "Would you even be standing here if I'd told you as soon as I found out?"
"I would have- I'd be- I don't...no..." Kyle's shoulders sank as he came to the obvious realization. "No, I wouldn't be standing at all."
A new wave of sadness started washing over him to drown out the anger. Knowing that Ryan was right about keeping it secret didn't make it easier to accept the news. It just brought on a much fresher pain. It was like facing their death again all over again.
Before he could even begin to try burying the hurt in his own way, Ryan suddenly pulled him in, wrapping his arms around Kyle's back. Kyle had no choice but to brace himself against Ryan's chest as the heavier male fell back onto the sofa with him in tow. He laid on top of Ryan's sturdy body with one of those heavy arms wrapped behind his back and keeping him close. "Ryan?" he asked in confusion.
"Just shut up now, okay?" the blonde tips of his hair were ruffled up by the short fall his amber eyes were softer than they'd ever been. His voice was tired, but still relaxed. Ryan was never gentle with his roommate, but this time he wasn't exactly being rough either.
"What are you doing?" Kyle asked hesitantly. He wasn't sure what would cause the very straight-forward fighter to be so affectionate with him, but he also wasn't in any frame of mind to refuse it.
"I really don't know, Kai. So, just shut up for a while." His yellow eyes closed, but his arm stayed firmly wrapped around his captive. Soon he was asleep and Kyle marveled at how relaxed the foreigner looked.
He gave in completely and laid his head on the very sturdy and warm chest of the sleeping protector.
=====================================
So, we're getting closer to the real crisis of the story (no not that whole Helix taking over the world thing, the romance thing of course. Ryan is still in a perfectly real relationship with Arden. So what do you think about his actions toward the end of this chapter? Is he crossing some sort of line, or is this just harmless guy time? leave a comment to let me know what you think! :D
