Soul Searching

3Gun sat rocking

on two legs of his chair

The Jamboree sounds

still filling the air

That it would be

so successful

nobody could guess

But if anyone asked

it was all SSS

He saw his friend Tiddly

leave the bar for the street

He looked sad and lonely

slumped in defeat

A parade of old memories

flashed through his head

The villains encountered

all jailed, hiding, or dead

Things had so changed

More than one might imagine

Was it time to consider

turning his badge in?

If I did such a thing

Then what would I do?

Getting to old

to learn something new

I'd spent all my life

on both sides of the law

Using one skill

My lightening quick draw

Still villains to battle

Still folks to protect

But am I still needed

Have I lost their respect?

For the Red House girls' rescue

They didn't need me along

The implication might be

I'd played my swan song

Billy and Rue and Deputy D

AJ and Kae

All too embarrassed to say

That the one I went after

Was the only one got away

He went off to the jail

Had transfer papers to sign

They'd soon be Lorne's problem

With their incessant whine

He sat at the desk

Swiveled the chair

Then looked out the window

with a thousand yard stare
