Chapter 21 - The Promise

Stella Veros

"What do you want? Why do you come here?" I heard Axel asked Trissa

"I miss you, let's get back together"

"Back together, you know my commitment so well. I won't get back with you" Axel said in a cold tone

"I love you, Axel!" Trissa bursted

"Then why did you keep cheating?" He asked

"Because you never express your love enough!" Trissa bursted and her voice cracked

"I felt that I'm the one who loves you, you never care for me. You know that I'm a type of person that needs a lot of love" She said

"You said it's not enough? Are you crazy? What kind of reason is that?" Axel bursted

"I've done everything for you. Never care? Are you blind? You know Trissa.. you're sick!" Axel bursted coldly and angrily

"You're dating that girl to make me jealous right? You still love me!" She bursted back

"Love you? Love?" Axel scoffed

"You still love me.. you called me when you're drunk 2 weeks ago" She said and my breath got hitch. I felt my heart just got stabbed.

"It was a mistake" Axel said in a small tone, that made everything so obvious. He's still madly in love with this girl. That really hit me.. I'm on their way.

"Mistake? You still love me and I love you. Let's get back together and be happy.."

"I'm dating Stella"

"Break up with her, you're just using her to make me jealous right? I'm jealous! I'M SO DAMN JEALOUS!"

"I'm not breaking up with her, yesterday you crossed the line and hurted her!"

"She hurted me first! Why are you defending her?" Trissa asked in annoyed tone

"Hurted you first? Prove it"

I've heard enough, I don't want to hear the conversation again. I walked towards Axel's bathroom and shut the door. It was so obvious that Axel was still madly in love with Trissa. He called her when he was drunk.

Stella.. while you gave all of you to him and prepared yourself to be his wife.. he was still madly in love with his ex. You can't hope for him to reply your feelings because he doesn't even look at you.

If you continue this, you'll hurt Axel more. He turned cold like this because of Trissa and only her who can get his old self back. No matter how hard I try to make his coldness go away.. it won't go away. Only Trissa who can control it. Lucky her to have a guy like Axel.

I looked at myself at the mirror and straighten up my posture.

"Stella, your dream to be a doctor must.. be.. buried." I said to myself. I was hoping that by marrying Axel will be my last choice but in the end it still doesn't work. I guess I don't have any choice but to fulfill my responsibilties as the one and only heiress of Veros.

If I continue this.. my feelings for Axel will get deeper and deeper. I need to save myself before drowning. I can't keep this up anymore. I need to let him go.

If we both get married, it will only hurt us both. I like him while he's thinking about someone else. It will eventually hurt me too. I sighed and looked at the mirror again.

Stella.. before you back away.. you need to cherish him a little bit more right? I need to spend a lot of time with him before letting him go because the definition of letting him go means that I won't see him again and talk to him again.

Suddenly the door bursted open, I turned to Axel. He's looking at me in panic.

"What are you doing here?"

"You two need to talk alone so I decided to stay here to give you both some privacy" I said smiling at him

"Privacy? Why do I need that?" He asked

"Everyone needs one.. so she's gone right? Can I continue my breakfast?" I asked and he looked at me weirdly. I walked pass him and walked out from his room.

I sat down on the sofa and started to continue eating my breakfast. I looked at the TV blankly while putting everything that I scoop from my spoon.

"Stella.." Axel called and I turned to him

"Yeah?"

"If Trissa mess with you again, you need to tell me" He said and I nodded

"If she hurts you, hurt her back" He added

"Okay" I said. I put the empty plate on the table. I looked at the scratches and the nail marks. I sighed and when will this heal? Suddenly Axel sat in front of me and took care the scratches and nail marks again.

"Are you still marrying me?" I asked and he looked up to me

"Yes, why?"

"Why?" I asked him back instead of me answering him

"Because you pity me?" I added

"I said don't ask that question" He said and I nodded

"I'm marrying you because I want to. Stop asking things like that, I will never leave you and get back to Trissa. I will keep my promise that I'll marry you" He answered as he's done treating my scars.

"Thankyou, Axel" I said and he looked up to me

"Trust me okay?" I noticed that he didn't use any cold tone in this conversation. I can't help but feel so happy.

"I trust you" I said and he smiled. He got up and ruffled my hair. I can't stop smiling seeing this side of him today. I can't believe that I witnessed Axel smiling 2 times.

"I already asked my secretary to buy you some clothes, we're going out after this" He stated and I can't help but be excited.
