Dedication is for all the support they've given to the story, thank you again <3
Well, that certainly was a journey, wasn't it?
Ever since I attempted a THG fanfic when I was like 10, which turned out disastrously, ideas have been milling about in my head. Before I began the planning for 'unforgivable', I had 3 things pre-determined.
1. it would be an extreme slowburn finnick x oc, which I specified in the redone description of this fic. The oc would NOT fall in love with him at first sight. It took a while for the whole killed-my-sister thing to develop, but when it did it was a good excuse for me to make her hate him at first.
2. it would be set in the 68th Hunger Games. At first, I had no plans of making a part two (I have horrible luck with even completing stories, let alone making sequels), but obviously now I've changed my mind. I had originally intended for the different parts to separate the oc's original games, but that plan was obviously edited quite a bit. I chose the 68th because... I have no idea why. I think it was just because I wanted Finnick and the oc to be the same age, and I decided that 17 was a respectable age for the oc.
3. the oc would be from 5. District 5 isn't a widely used district in fanfics, and that was the initial charm of it. Not from 4, since I didn't want her to be too closely connected with Finnick before the story. Not from 1 or 2, since I didn't want her to be a career. But not from the 'outlying' districts either, because I wanted her to have some semblance of prior skill that probably couldn't be properly developed in districts 10/11/12. Eventually, I narrowed it down to either 5, 6 or 9 - I disregarded 7 since that was where her ally was going to be from, and 8 because I'm not too fond of the district as a whole. Obviously, I chose 5 in the end. I always did like Foxface.
Then the planning process began. I used a form from deviantart too plan Electra's character, then after I wrote the prologue I began the slow, tedious task of planning out the tributes and then the entire games. Here's a few insider facts about the key characters.
ELECTRA REINE
Name Origin: her full name, as I revealed in part two (I don't think it was mentioned in part one, but I might be wrong) is Electra May Reine. Electra and Reine because I wanted to link her name to District 5's job, which is power - electricity and rain both help to generate power. I chose May because it seemed to flow with her first and last name.
Personality Origin: I would describe Electra as driven/determined, slightly on the cynical and sarcastic side and brooding/vengeful. Yes, she is the kind of person to kick a STRANGER when they're down, but she is rather loyal to her friends and loved ones. I don't know if I really portrayed her personality well in part one, but I'm hoping to rectify that in part two.
Weapon Of Choice Origin: I had knives down from the very start, for no other reason than the fact that they're my favourite. Knives would also be easily accessible in 5 since they're not incredibly poor. I also chose the katana because it would be interesting, and a trident because the ironic side of my brain thought that giving Electra an aptitude for the weapon that her least favourite person is good at was an excellent idea.
BREEZE REINE
Name Origin: her full name, as I revealed in part two, is Breeze Alison Reine. Her first and last names, like Electra's, were chosen due to their link to 5's industry, power. I made Alison their mother's name, so I gave Breeze that name as a middle name.
Personality Origin: she's pretty much an angel, there's no better way to describe it. She was only 12 when she died, after all. Kind, sweet and selfless - three words to describe her. Personally, for what limited space I had to bring out Breeze's personality, I think I did it reasonably well.
