Part 8 - Different Feelings

Truth is, I miss Betty. I've been ignoring her for the past couple of days. It's too hard to be just friends with her when I'm undeniably attracted to her.

It sucks. I just want to be around her. Thoughts of her are constantly consuming me, and I just know I'm eventually going to give in.

"Hey, you're Veronica right?" A voice said from behind me, interrupting my thoughts.

I turned around to see the famous red-headed boy.

"That'd be me, you're a little late though. I've been going to school here for almost a month now." I replied sharply.

"Yeah, I guess I just haven't had the chance to introduce myself. I'm Archie"

"Oh trust me, I'm well aware"

"So you know who I am?"

"You're my ex girlfriend's ex" I scoffed.

"Uh yeah" he chuckles nervously.

"Was there something you wanted to say when you approached me?" I asked with a questioning look.

"Yeah, uh the chorus director said you're a really great singer, and I was actually looking for someone to sing my duet with at the dance"

"Hmmm I see" I nodded.

"So what do you think? Are you in?" He asked excitedly.

I shrugged "Sure why not, I've got nothing better to do" I smiled.

"Awesome, I'll catch ya around Veronica!" He said before bolting off.

As I walked to class I couldn't help but think, hopefully Betty won't mind that I'm singing a duet with her ex.

The day dragged on, and on. I was over it, over school.  I wanted to talk to Betty so badly.

It's time, I was going to cave.

I tapped my pencil on my desk anxiously, before letting the words slip from my mouth.

"Um Betty?" I said tapping the back of her desk.

"What?" She asked.

"Could I talk to you after school?" I said nervously.

"Uh yeah, I guess so" She said confused.

I smiled, and she turned around facing the front of the classroom again.

The bell had finally rung, this dreadful day was officially over.

I waited outside of the school for Betty.

A couple minutes later, I see her and her blonde ponytail make her way out the door.

"Hey" I waved.

"Hi" she replied back.

"Um not to be rude or anything, but I thought you said you were done with me?" She chuckled.

"Yeah well then I found out it's extremely difficult to not be your friend" I laughed.

"Oh, alright" She nodded.

"So what do you say ? Friends?" I asked.

"TBD" She shrugged.

"Cmon, B"

"I'm just joking" she laughed.

"Yay!" I hugged her.

"I want a milkshake, pop's ?" Betty suggested.

I nodded in approval, and we were off.

We sat down in our usual booths, drinking our usual drinks, but something felt different

Things between us had changed. Being around Betty didn't feel the same as it used to for some reason.

It's weird.

"You okay?" She asked me, clearly noticing that I was dazing off.

"Uh huh" I smiled.

I need to just clear my head.

"What're you thinking about?" Betty asked, tilting her head to the side.

"You" I said glancing at her, nervously.

She smiled then slightly blushed.

"Good or bad?" She questioned.

I shrugged "I'm not sure exactly"

She frowned.

"What's wrong?" Betty said placing her hand on top of mine on the table.

I pulled away, "I'm sorry, I need to go" I said as I rushed out of the diner.

I don't know what's wrong with me. I'm just not feeling a connection with Betty all of a sudden. I can't help it, my mind is on someone else.

B E T T Y -

There she goes, again.

Leaving me, again.

I can't keep doing this. I want to be her friend so badly. Veronica makes me feel happy, and special. She makes me feel loved in a way, no one ever has. She makes me laugh, and makes me cry. She has a big effect on me.

It scares me, even though we haven't known each other that long I feel so close to her. I don't want to lose her.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket, and dialed Veronica's number, she declined the call.

I left a message.

"Veronica, just tell me what's wrong. I'm here for you, call me when you get the chance"

I threw my phone on the ground of the parking lot out of stress.

I sound pathetic, I'm trying way too hard. Maybe I just need to give her some space?

I don't know, I just want to be there for her.

Could it be possible? Am I falling for Veronica?
