Part 11 - Welcome To New York

By now the whole school was taking about the new "it couple" Archie and Veronica. I'll admit, it kind of felt like someone was stabbing me in the heart. I've been trying to ignore it, but that's been proven to be difficult.

I just want to get away from all of this for a while. Go off somewhere, where I can just have fun with my REAL friends.

So that's exactly what I planned on doing. Fall break was approaching, which means no school for a week. I couldn't be happier. Kevin, Valerie, and I are taking a trip to New York City. A whole week of partying, and forgetting about the past. It's going to be perfect.

I look around, and notice Veronica's eyes glued to me. I give her a sharp glare, and quickly turn around and walk in the opposite direction.

I was in no mood to deal with her games. Today is the last day I'd have to deal with awkward ex eye contact for a whole week.

I walked into class and began to jot down notes as the teacher was talking.

"Hey, Betty" I heard someone say.

I turned around to see that it was Chuck. My friends and I despised chuck, he was a well known fuckboy at riverdale high.

"What?" I asked in a bitchy tone.

"I'm throwing a little fall break kickback with some people tonight, you should come" He smiled, almost sincerely.

"As tempting as that offer is, I'm leaving for New York tonight" I explained.

"Oh that's cool, are you going with Veronica?"

I looked at him with disgust.

"Why would you even ask that?" I asked him.

"Uh, aren't y'all like best friends?" He said with confusion in his voice.

I shook my head "Not anymore"

"Ah, well I'm sorry for asking" He apologized.

I shrugged "It's fine. Thanks for the offer though, about the party."

"Anytime" he grinned.

I knew he was just trying to get in my pants, but he was being strangely nice.

I waited patiently for class to finally end.

Later at lunch, we sat at our usual spot.

"I'm so excited for New York!" Valerie exclaimed.

Kevin and I nodded our heads in agreement.

"What time does our flight leave?" Kev asked.

"10, but I want to be at the airport by 9"I said.

"Sounds good to me" Valerie said, and Kevin agreed.

"This is going to be a great week." I smiled.

"I really hope so. You've had a tough month, you really need some fun" Valerie said giving me I hug.

I hugged her back and nodded.

"We can meet at my house at 8:30" I confirmed.

After school, I sat by myself in a booth at pops. I just wanted to think about things one more time, before I just forget about it all.

I thought about Archie, and how he doesn't deserve me. Did our many years of friendship mean nothing to him? I thought about how Veronica lead me on, and broke apart our friendship. I thought about all of my unresolved feelings, that would never be resolved.
