Stepping onto the plane I knew this was going to be good, I knew I could start a life with Lily and the engagement ring in my suitcase proved it.

I set our bags on the above luggage holder and looked over at the bed next to Lily's and froze. No, this wasn't happening. Her brown almost black hair and her dark eyes, this wasn't happening.

"Neal?" She asked, the voice was familiar, heartbreaking, like a thousand knives in my stomach.

"Kate."

I watched as Neal didn't know quite what to do, quite how to act, a 12 hour journey with his girlfriend and his ex girlfriend wasn't quite the journey he was hoping for. She looked him up and down, her mouth agape almost in disbelief. Unconsciously my fists clenched, the way she was looking at him, like she owned him. Like he was hers...

"Hi, I'm lily" I said jumping into the conversation as the tension between them broke as they both turned to look at me, it took Neal a minute but he quickly put his arm wrapped around me, pulling me into his chest. 'Take that.' I thought, I shouldn't be feeling bitter but what was I meant to do it was obvious she still liked him if not still in love with him. I knew that look all too well.

"Kate I'd like you to meet Lily Scarlet" Neal said introducing me although I could tell neither of us wanted to meet one another. "She's my girlfriend." I watched as the word 'girlfriend' had an obvious effect on Kate, her bright eyes dimmed and her head moved towards the floor and then back to me smiling. Just then, when I saw her hide her pain a pan of guilt came flooding my way, she was Neal's first love and I took him away from her. Granted he did think she was dead...

"It's very nice to meet you Lily I hope Neal is treating you well" she said softly and smoothly, her eyes looking at me with a twinge of pain not so much that Neal would notice.

"Yeah" I replied my voice matching her soft tone. "He is" I said looking back up at Neal and smiling as he smiled with me. "Anyway we should be getting seated" I said looking at Neal as he nodded, climbing into the planes makeshift bed and I climbed into the one next to him. "It was nice meeting you Kate."

Neal

What the hell was I supposed to do? I wanted them to meet but not this soon, not now. Not by surprise, it hurt to see Kate again. It was as if a old chapter of my life had come back to haunt me.

I couldn't help but think about what could've been with Kate, how our life could've turned out. But I have Lily, funny, sarcastic, lovely lily... the flight has to be more than 12 hours and now I sat her my girlfriend on one side of me and my ex girlfriend right next to her. I guess this is what people have nightmares about.

I spent so long looking for Kate that all the times I'd pictured it I'd never have another girl on my arm, but I don't regret it. She's my girl, Lily's hand reached over to touch mine and I smiled at her, we were always used to being so close in bed so when we couldn't cuddle due to space it hurt me a little. I liked holding her, making sure she was safe and secure, she was mine, always.
