Kendra
I stood up on the stage next to a group of beautiful women. I felt out of place on this stage next to them. As if I wasn't worthy or beautiful as them.
"There is 15 lovely ladies and we'll start from right to left. First, we have savanna, Mr. Derek Morris's wife. Do we have 1000?!"
Overall a slightly older man, maybe in his late 30s or early 40 won a dance with her. Judging by the way they looked at each other, I'm guessing he is her husband. He looked very wealthy.
The man talked fast through the microphone as each girl down the line was bid on for a dance. Once the 12th girl was done and he went on to the 13th who name I found out was Rebecca, I couldn't help but draw my eyes to our table where Eric was sitting.
His eyes were on the man talking really face and shouting out numbers, very high numbers. His face didn't give any emotion on his face. He sort of looked bored, but again it was hard to tell with his poker face.
His eyes moved from the man to me as if he knew I was looking at him. We made eye contact and he tilted his head slightly. He looked at me as if I was a new discovery, but he still needed to figure it out. Once he was done he raised and eyebrow at me and I quickly moved my eyes away from his mesmerizing ones.
I was too focused on not looking back at him that I didn't notice it was my turn.
"And finally we have Miss....."
"Kendra" I say giving the man a short smile. Of course he knew all of the other girls. Not me. I'm a nobody
"Kendra!!" He shouted to the crowd and the bidding started.
"Ten thousand!" A random stranger shouted to start and I looked at him. He looked a little bit older than Eric, but he looked like a complete asshole. I met eyes with Eric again, but this time he wasn't looking at me. He was glaring at the guy.
"Fifty thousand!" Eric shouted.
"60!" The guy shouted.challenging Eric wasn't a good idea.
I could tell he got really angry and then he shouted, "500 thousand!"
The guy didn't need to even answer back. He stepped down and didn't shout another amount again.
"500 thousand dollars going once, twice, Sold to Mr.Eric Kinsley! Have a lovely dance ladies."
I walked down with the other women and made my way to Eric. He grabbed my hand and dragged me to the dance floor with the others. He didn't say a word. He placed his hands on my waist and seated with me to the slow music playing.
We got through half of the song without him saying anything. Then, her closed the space between us and rested my head on his shoulder and he was breathing on my neck. We were really close now.
"What are you doing?" I asked talking literally into his ear.
"We have to look like we're in love." Was his response. So, I just went with it and danced with my head on his shoulder.
The music played softly and calmly and I had to admit that I felt kind of calm and relaxed dancing with Eric. It felt nice. Not as bad as I thought at first. Not bad at all.
I felt the tap of someone's finger on my back when the song slowly came to an end.
I turned with Eric to see an older man with a blue suit and black tie on. He gave off this very professional side that made you aware of him antes here he went.
"Mr.Romas, how nice to see you this evening." Eric put on his best fake grin. He could have fooled me.
He gave a nod to him, "Eric, who might this be?" He asked looking at me giving me what looked like the most polite smile he could give.
I smiled back, "Kendra, Eric's girlfriend."
He smiled at me again with a certain light in his eyes, "How lovely, mind if I still a dance from her Eric?" He asked wrapping his arm around my waist and looking at Eric.
Eric grinned and nodded his head, "Absolutely. I promise I won't get jealous." He laughed and payed the mans shoulder. He certainly was kissing up to this man and I wondered why.
He have one more nod and grabbed my hand dragging me somewhere else in the dance floor. As I passed Eric whispered harshly in my ear,"Don't mess this up."
I didn't know what not to mess up. We never went over this. This wasn't apart of the plan. We didn't discuss this happening.
We started dancing and I kept my distance respectively . I didn't want to do anything that would ruin whatever Eric planned with this man and he also was very intimidating.
"So, you're Eric's girlfriend. Tell me, what did you like about him. What made you pick him?" The man suddenly ask and I became stiff.
I didn't know what to say to that and I certainly didn't want to mess up anything for Eric and make him look bad. I just tried answer as best as I could and tried to pick something I liked about Eric.
"Well, his way of making everyone listen to him. Well he is mostly on top of everything and in control. Not with me because you know us women. I'm the only one who can handle him and be in control once and a while." I laughed with him as I finished.
"He's a good man." The man said nodding and I smiled in reply.
"Yes he is." I agreed with him.
After the dance, 20 minutes later I sat in the seat rubbing my feet where the high heels were pushing into my skin. I wanted to go to sleep now. I was exhausted and I couldn't see Eric anywhere amongst the rich suits and gowns.
"Kendra." Was the only thing he said to me. It came from behind me and it was sharp and harsh. He wasn't happy with me.
I turned around to see Eric standing there scowling at me and I knew I was right, but what did I do to make him pissed at me?
"Yes?" I asked standing up.
He angrily grabbed my wrist and dragged me to the hallway right next to the bathrooms. He let go of my wrist and stopped once we were there, but he stood close to me and gave me a deathly glare that made me cower. He was serious and very angry. It seemed like he was very angry at me, but what for? What did I do?
"Eric?" I ask softly.
"Shut up!" He clenches his teeth together and squeezed his fist at his side, "What did you say to him?"
I furrow my eyebrows in confusion, "What did I say to who?"
"Don't act stupid!" He growled and moved in closet encasing me between him and the wall.
I closed my eyes tightly to keep from crying as the flashes of this happening. He would do this all the time and I can still remember the stench of alcohol on his breath. I shook myself out of those thoughts and looked up at Eric in terror. I didn't want to go through that again.
"I didn't do anything." I barley whispered and accidentally let out an unwanted whimper.
Eric's stern and evil glare started deteriorating and he moved his arms from both the sides of me on the wall and backed away from me, "Kendra?" He asked and I didn't answer I left as soon as I got enough space to. I ran away from him and into the cold New York night air.
I hope you liked this chapter and please don't hate me. I know it's been forever :(
