"Mommy?"

I wiped my tear stained face just in time to greet my daughter with a comforting smile.

"Nov, why aren't you in bed? It's late."

She walked out onto the back porch and I cradled her in my arms as I rubbed her hair back.

"I had a bad dream."

I gasped, "You did?"

I felt her nod against my chest.

"Do you want mommy to read you the caterpillar book?"

She nods with more enthusiasm.

"Okay go get into bed, I'll be up in a minute."

She kisses me on the check before running back upstairs.

Such an angel, how did I get so lucky?

I took in my backyard scenery for a miniscule, before following her back upstairs.

After I settled Nova back into bed, I settled myself in. Knowing he probably wouldn't answer, I called Liam.

I sighed. Voicemail.

"Hey umm, I know you're probably working late again. I just wanted to let you know I'm going to bed. I also cooked dinner, so if you're hungry... okay I'll see you when you get home. I love you."

I hung up and sulked down into my sheets. Before I went to bed, I decided to try and call Karma.

She's a hard person to get in contact with these days.

"Hey! I'm so glad you called me! It feels like it's been weeks since we spoke."

"It's been months actually." Six to be exact.

"Well a career in medical could do that for you I guess."

I smiled but it didn't reach my eyes.

"I umm, just wanted to call and see if you were still coming back home for my graduation?"

"It's this Friday, right?"

"Yep."

"Wouldn't miss it for the world. So proud of you. I hope you really do something with Journalism."

I smile again exceeding the latter.

"Shane isn't coming, is he?"

I sigh, "Karma, of course Shane is coming. God it's be years already you two have got to move past this."

"Tell that to the child I lost." She paused and I can tell she regretted saying that. "Amy look, I have a medical exam coming up that I really should start studying for."

"It's just—Karma—

"We can talk tomorrow, okay?"

"Liam is cheating on me." I blurt.

It went radio silent then.

"And suddenly, I have all the time in the world..."

She got here rather quickly the next morning, sashayed her way through my front door.

"Well look at you stranger."

She smiled at me and twirled.

Look at her indeed. Karma, did always have an eye for fashion, but now she looks like a city girl.

"Is this how all the girls dress at Duke?"

She avoids my eyes and looks down at her feet. "No silly."
