At age five, my life is an utter mess. I get it, I'm a child, but I'm an extremely smart child. I'm already two grades ahead of my time.
My parents haven't slept in the same bed for days, and I'm really hoping I don't become a child of divorce. Dad picked me up from school today. That was rather odd, because it's usually mom.
"Nov, how was school today sweetie?"
I shrug, "It was fine. It was school."
"You hungry? We can stop and get some ice—
"Where's mom? She usually comes to get me."
She had her grad rehearsal today. You remember we told you last night I'd be picking you up."
Oh yeah, now I remember. It was awkward. Dad looked at her yearningly and mom looked like she just wanted to be alone.
The silence in the car grew louder than words could express.
"Okay, what's wrong?"
"What's wrong with you and mom?"
He stiffened, "Emotions have been a little high between us and I'm sorry. That must be affecting you negatively."
"You do realize I'm not stupid, right? My IQ is too high to not know what's going on, despite my age."
"What do you mean?"
"I know what's wrong with you and mom, I heard her and Auntie Karma talking about it. I just wanted to see if you'd actually tell me."
"Nova—
"How could you cheat on her? How could you stress her out like that?!? She doesn't need to be stressed right now because of your mistakes especially now that she's pregnant!"
"How—how do you know about that?"
"I actually think I knew before she did. I was concern, so I googled the symptoms she was having. They all led to pregnancy."
"Sweetheart, please believe me when I tell you I love your mother. I want nothing more to fix our relationship."
"Then why did you do it? What did she do to you?"
"Nothing. She did absolutely nothing. She didn't deserve my betrayal and I regret it every day."
We pull up to the house and I just want to be anywhere else but here.
"I hope she forgives you for the sake of our family, because if she doesn't I'll never forgive you for ruining us."
I got out and ran into the house with a fully tear-stained face.
stay tuned for an amy chapter...
