"You were coming to Amy's graduation, right?"
"Yeah, but I still have a few days. I have to finish all the work SOMEONE stuck me with."
"You said you'd cover me while I was gone."
"And I am, as promised."
"Thank you, Lauren. Really, I appreciate it."
"Have you told anyone yet? Amy? Your parents?"
"No."
"Karma..."
"How? How do I tell them? My parents, sure, they probably won't be that mad, but Amy... Amy will be furious."
I looked over my shoulder to make sure I was still alone in the room.
"Amy is the one who worked her ass off to get me a scholarship to Duke. If she finds out I dropped out to be an assistant to a fashion mogul in New York, she'd freak. I don't want her to be disappointed in me."
"Speaking of being disappointed in someone, what the hell is happening with her and Liam?"
"I'm sure she'll feel you in when you get here."
"I don't like keeping your secrets Karma. So, you better open your mouth and sing like a canary before you hope back on a plane to JFK. Send Little Nova my love."
I hung up in frustration.
"Karma?"
"What?!?" I jumped.
Amy eyed me, "Umm, I just wanted to give you a heads up, Liam just left to pick up Shane from the airport."
I roll my eyes, "Great."
"Promise you'll be civil?"
"Nope."
She shrugs, "Well, I tried."
"He's not staying here, is he?"
"Why wouldn't he stay here Karm, we have plenty of room."
"If you weren't having marital problems I swear I'd be getting a hotel room right about now."
"About that." She steps further inside. "Try not to bring it up around Nova. Liam told me she asked him if we were getting a divorce the other night."
"You're kidding?!?"
"Wish I was."
"Has that even crossed your mind?"
Please say no.
She sighs, "No."
I let out a small sigh of my own as she joins me on the bed.
"You think I would, but that's not what I want. We'll work through it and we'll be fine. Just don't tell him that. He deserves to squirm a little."
"Agreed."
"Okay, enough about me. You've told me nothing about school. How's it been going?"
I hesitate, "School—umm, school is great. It's stressful, but I manage."
"No boyfriend?"
"No boyfriend."
"Have you had a serious relationship since Shane?"
"Not one that's mattered."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be. I'm far too busy to fully commit myself to anyone anyways."
"Well, I guess I'll get started on breakfast. Man do I miss Claude."
She disappears out the door leaving me with my thoughts.
