Chapter - 8
Injury And Losses

"Out!"

Seidou fans immediately burst into a wave of cheers. That was the second out, but the runner from first advanced to second base. Kagami heavily breathed as she made her way to the top of the mound. She wiped the sweat that formed on her forehead as she caught the baseball in her glove. Tetsu had thrown the ball back to her and got back in position.

Matsu went to transfer the baseball from her glove to her bare hand, but when she held the ball, it fell out of her hand. It once again rolled down the mound to field level. While this action didn't bother the audience, Miyuki got suspicious. He called for a time out and started to jog towards the mound.

Kagami P.O.V.

'Damn, it hurts..' I thought. I went to retrieve the ball and when I looked up I saw Kazuya approaching.

I held the ball in my glove and I begun to roll my right wrist in circles. It hurt. Not as close as last time this happened though.

As Miyuki arrived, he wrapped his arm around my shoulders and turned me toward the outfield.

"Does it hurt?" He asked immediately. I nodded as a response. "Can you finish this inning?" He questioned from behind his catchers mitt.

"I... don't know."

He looked at me through his visors, then turned towards the dugout. I watched as he gave coach a small nod. After that, dad and the infielders started to come towards us.

"Give me your hand." Coach Kataoka told me when he arrived. I did as I was told and outstretched my arm towards him. He held onto my wrist and started to put pressure on it by tightening his grip.

"Ow.. ow ow ow!! Dad!" I scolded him. He let go of my wrist and it dropped to my side.

Third Person P.O.V.

"Hey what's happening there?"

"Maybe the pitcher is injured from the hit earlier.."

"Hm, most likely."

The audience started to question if Seidou's pitcher was injured or not. But it quieted down when the people on the mound scattered back to their positions.

Miyuki was the last to depart from the mound.

"Let's make these pitches count." He said to Matsu, who would be taken out next inning. Before he left, he patted Kagami on her head with his catcher's mitt.

"Foul!"

"Foul!"

One more strike and it would end the inning. The battery managed to bait the batter, who was Narumiya, with outside pitches.

Kagami was at her limit and her wrist felt horrible. Miyuki asked for a knuckleball and Matsu gave it to him without a fight.

"Strike! Batter out!"

'Finally..'

"Switch!"
