Chapter - 12
Realizations

Miyuki P.O.V.

"I think I've fallen for her.."

"You just realize that now bro? Kyahahaha!"

'What's this guy getting at?'

I look at Kuramochi with an eyebrow raised. He gives me the same look.

"Oh c'mon, you made it obvious that you had something for Matsu ever since she transferred here last year.."

I roll my eyes. "Don't you think I was just being friendly with her since—you know... she's my childhood friend."

"Pshh. Fine, but now you have to tell her how you feel. Trust me!" Kuramochi suggested, swinging an arm around my shoulders covered with fresh snowflakes.

"Last time I took your advice, Matsu ignored me for hours." I countered, brushing his arm off my shoulder. I grabbed the hood of my jacket and draped it over my head.

Our feet crushed the snow under our boots as we walked together in silence. Winter had begun and snowfall followed quickly after. Kuramochi headed to the indoor training grounds and I went to the bullpen. I was scheduled to catch for Kagami, like always. The new first years were a real treat and my new roommate, Okumura Koushuu, seemed to have a burning passion to take my regular catcher position before I retire.

Okumura was in the bullpen when I arrived and was catching for another first year pitcher, Asada Hirofumi. His catching had a soft touch to it and it intrigued me as a third year. Kagami hadn't arrived yet so I decided to watch Okumura.

"Am I really worthy to be watched?" He suddenly said without looking at me. I could already tell that he was pissed by me.

"Well what else am I supposed to do? Take a nap?"

"If that's the only thing to prevent you from looking at me, then yes."

Before I got to reply a voice interrupted.

"That's not a way to talk to your upperclassman, Okumura."

My head snapped towards the entrance of the bullpen to find Kagami. Her hair wasn't in her usual ponytail, but it was let down naturally. It must've been too cold for her. She approached me and Okumura once she entered.

"Please speak more respectfully to your upperclassmen. I thought you two had worked this out already!"

I started to respond but was cut off.

"Of course, Mastu- Senpai.." was Okumura's answer.

Matsu was really the only upperclassmen Okumura listened to. During their first day and introduction Okumura mentioned that the only player that he respected was Kagami. Then she turned to me.

"Sorry I'm late. I got caught up in the mess hall.."

I waved my hand. "No, it's fine."

She smiled. "Then let's start!"

Kagami P.O.V.

It's been a while since we first started and it seemed like we were finishing up. I pitched a fastball and Kazuya said that was the last pitch.  As he begun to make his way out into the cold wind, I stopped him.

"Wait!" He stopped in his tracks and glanced over at me. "Can I pitch a little longer?" My voice quieted.

He smirked and put his catcher's mask back on. "Let's go then.."

Many pitches later...

"Okay that was the last pitch, I promise."

"It is now." Miyuki said basketball-throwing the baseball right into the baseball bag. I laughed.

Thump....... thump....... thump........

Miyuki walked towards me and I took a few steps of my own. We were the last people in the bullpen and the sun had begun to set. Once we reached each other he spoke:

"Good pitching today, Kagami." He patted my chest with his catching mitt and I grinned. For the first time in our friendship, an awkward silence surrounded us. My eyes wandered around the bullpen, trying my best to think of something to say.

"Well," he started, making the silence disappear. "I'll see you tomorrow?" I locked eyes with him and nodded.

"See you."

He begun to walk away and before he left he greeted me goodnight. "Good night Kagami."

I turned around and waved bye. "Night!"

A moment later, the door closed leaving me alone.

"What's this?" I mumbled to myself. I placed my hand above my heart.

Thump.. thump.. thump.. thump.. thump..

My heartbeat was beating faster then it was before—and that's when realization hit me.

"Don't tell me that I'm falling for him.."
