What I Did In Magic School Is: I Made a Friend?

Another mission, this time Aria and I were separated. Not that I can complain, she's been pestering me ever since we came back yesterday. Of course working with those slacker earth majors is a bother too.  All they do is lay around and grow plants.

My team is being sent for support for other teams while the leader of team 1 for earth and I have a special mission. I plan on just killing it and getting the hell out. I don't plan on making any friends while I'm here.

"Hey I'm Axel, let's do this!" A tall boy said nicely.

I looked him up and down with a frown. This is who I have to work with?

"Let's just kill this demon" I said and walked past his extended hand.

 I still have a lot of training and studying to do when I go back, so I don't plan on wasting my day here. We walked up to a meadow. According to our brief, this was a popular place to gather herbs for a village nearby and a demon had taken up residence here.

I stood onto the flourishing meadow and looked around.

"Where's this demon supposed to be anyways?" I muttered and kicked a clump of grass away from me.

"Help!" Someone screamed.

Suddenly the ground rumbled and trembled beneath our feet. My balance shifted and I felt Axel grab my arm to steady me.

A large earth type demon appeared in front of us. It was a large moss and flower covered creature with long extending vines. Its eye glowed a bright yellow. I noticed the ground finally settled. I yanked my arm away from Axel angry to have been made a fool of by this creature.

"Don't touch me" I snapped.

I took a step forward ignoring Axel's protests.

The creature boomed, it's vines extended grabbing two innocent kids from the field.

"Crystal just freeze the ground and let me take care of it!" Axel yelled.

I growled, who does he think I am? Some weak maiden that can't even kill a little flower demon? I'll show him just how strong I am, I don't need his help.

I jumped forward and threw a wave of ice shards. I watched as they bounced uselessly against its skin, the vines grip tightening even more.

"Crystal!"

I ran towards the monster and formed an ice sword. One stab with this and the demon will freeze. Once I entered it's space I gripped on tightly and lunged for it's heart.

Suddenly the child was used a shield and everything went into slow motion. My eyes widened and I grabbed the sword and tossed it behind me. A vine wrapped around my waist. It slowly squeezed as I tried to push it away.

"Fuck!" I cursed as I was lifted towards its mouth.

Suddenly a string of light blasted off the vine. I fell towards the ground, the creature groaning in pain as it's vine grew back.

I looked up at a angry Axel glaring at me.

"You're an idiot, this creature can't be harmed by other elements! You could have gotten those kids and yourself killed. This time follow what I say before you get anyone killed understand?" He snapped as I caught my breath.

I looked back at the screaming children, fear apparent on their faces and thought of my little brother. Those kids mean more than my pride, I shouldn't have taken this so lightly.

I lowered my head and gritted my teeth, I'll do anything even if it means following the orders of earth scum like him.

"Alright tell me what to do."
