I feel like shit. I wake up back in my hometown, Reno. It's sunny out so I must be late for school. I'm in my bedroom, it's filled with nerdy merchandise like Mario, Zelda, etc., with a lot of music merchandise too, like a bunch of 80's band stuff. I look around my room. That dream seemed way too real to me. What was that?

I'm covered in sweat, including my bed, and every part of my body aches in pain. I try to stretch but it ends up hurting my back. I end up laying back down then I look to my right and check my alarm clock.

8:47 a.m. I'm late for school, and school started at 8:00a.m.. I guess I forgot to set my clock again.

"Damn it." I mutter to myself.

I check my phone to see if my friend will pick me up, and he said sure because he was late too. I quickly gather all my school things and get ready. I don't have my school stuff, instead I have my toothbrush (in case I want to brush my teeth), my phone, one binder (for art), and some clothes (if I sweat in gym class, I have another pair of clothes). As I'm heading out the door, my step mom intercepts me by the front door.

"Hey you, you didn't say goodbye to me!" She says with a smile on her face.

She always looks great, even when she first wakes up. She's about my height, 5'6, which a lot of people confuse her for my sister. She has her glasses on, and still has her "pajamas" on, if you can call a shirt and only panties, pajamas. Her brown hair looks cute yet is in a mess. All up in a bun but it looked like it was rushed. From the way I'm looking at her, her freckles stand out. Man, I wish I could wake up like that.

"I'm so sorry Emily- I mean, mom," I say. I always forget to call her mom since it's the "polite" thing to do. "I'm running late so I'm trying to get there as fast as I can."

"Oh, right. Well can you at least stay for breakfast?" She says while entering the kitchen and hands me a bowl.

I look at her, smiling. Well I'm already late so I might as well eat something. I say thank you and head to the kitchen. I get the first cereal I find and grab the milk from the fridge.

I pour my first bowl.

"So how was your sleep?" She asks.

"Pretty good. If by "sleep" you mean playing Overwatch till 2a.m. and then sleeping, then yes. I had a pretty good sleep" I respond with a smirk.

She giggles at that. "You always say sleep is for the weak."

"Well it is!" I yell with enthusiasm.

We both laugh at our own amusement for awhile, then it gets quiet when we stop.

"Hey, can I tell you something?" I say.

"Oh, uh, sure. What's up?" She says, looking concerned.

"I had the same nightmare again but. . . It was awful. It was so lifelike. Like I was actually there."

"Oh my," She says. "Could you tell me what happened this time?"

"Well I was in Washington DC and it was in ruins. There was a line of people who were all in chains, and were all waiting to speak to this, I guess, new ruler of earth. No one knew I was there except him. Then he teleported to me, and told me that he can't believe that I survived an attack and that I'll pay for what my people did."

My mom looks shocked. She looks down at the ground, then up at me with a sad look to her.

"O-Oh. Well it's just a bad dream. Don't worry about it." She says quickly.

I haven't touched my food because I just can't eat after what I experienced from that dream so she quickly gets up, takes my bowl and washes the rest of the dishes. She always distracts herself when she lies.

"Well, I have to go. I'll be even more late." I say.

"Goodbye sweetie" She says quickly.

I can sense she's worried about something. I don't want to press the issue so I ignore it. She gets angry if I continue to press the issue when she gets like this. I start to walk out and then my mom yells out to me when I'm outside on the sidewalk.

"Be careful" She says sternly.

I look confused, then leave the house. Why is she worried and saying things like this? I sit down and wait in front my house for my friend when I hear his car coming up.

That's odd though. She's never said that before in that tone. I look at her confused when I hear the car pull up.

"Hey Rose, get in." He says.

I look back at my friend ant get up. I get in on the passenger side and watch my mom in the side view mirror as we drive away.

She looks very scared.
