"He picked you up yesterday?" Sage asks with a large smile as she drives us to Magnolia's.
"He did." I say, my cheeks turning red as I remember his lips pressing against my hand. My hand tingles from where they touched my skin.
"You're totally dating Harry Styles!" She squeals. "You're going to be famous."
"One, we aren't dating. Two, I'm not interested in him. And three, I'm not friends with him for fame." I clarify.
"You're lame." She groans.
Once we pull up, I tell her to park behind the building instead of in the front. "Okay. It's your first day. You know what to do?"
"Wait tables?" She laughs and follows me inside.
"Precisely." I take her to the kitchen where Drew is. "Sage, this is Drew. Drew, this is Sage." I introduce thim.
Drew looks up at her from stirring something in a large pot and waves with an oven mit on. "Nice to meet you. New girl right?" He assumes.
"You hit the nail on the head." She replies, hiding a smile.
"Okay. Get back to work." I say fake-sternly. He tilts an imaginary hat at me.
"Yes, Boss." He grins and looks back to the stove. I hear a quiet "shit" come from him as I guide Sage across the kitchen to get her clocked in.
I point at the keypad in front of the monitor. "Punch in your worker's code and get to work." I tell her, patting her back. "Like this." I push in my code and the monitor dings, notifying me that I have clocked in.
"Okay." She says with a smile and slowly pushes in her worker's code. She notices me watching. "I don't need guidance. I got this."
I throw my hands in the air in surrender. "Fine, fine. I'll be around if you need me."
Exiting the kitchen, I notice a familiar face. He's not sitting alone today and there aren't many fans around. There are around five fans and two paparazzi outside the window. I decide to say hi.
I scuffle to his table. "Hi." I smile at him. He looks up from his phone and smiles back.
"Hey."
The guy across from Harry looks up and watches us. "Oh!" He exclaims. I snap my head towards him. "That's the girl you were talking about." He grins at Harry and wiggles his eyebrows. Harry gives him a look and chuckles lightly, shaking his head. "Hi. I'm AJ. You must be Emery."
I nod and gently shake his hand. I turn to Harry once more. "You talk about me, huh?" I tease. His face flushes and he bites back a smile.
AJ speaks up, "Yeah, all of the time."
Harry glares at him again, causing me to laugh. "All good things, I hope." I say kindly and Harry looks back up at me, his eyes sparkle in the luminescent light. They're like a deep lake that goes on forever. I could stare at them for eternity.
"All good things." He repeats, slightly chewing his lip. It becomes really awkward and silent before Harry speaks up again. "We're ready to order. I'll have the usual."
I stop him from saying anymore. "Actually, I'm not a waitress anymore. I got a raise."
Harry frowns. "I won't be able to see you that often, then?" He pauses and plays it off with a little laugh. "Not like it matters or anything. I was just wondering." He scratches the back of his neck.
AJ cuts off his rambling. "I'll be sure that he'll call you when he can." He promises, pushing me lightly. The corners of my lips twitch, threatening to stretch into a smile.
"I'll have a waitress come out soon." I say and start to walk away.
"Hey. Wait," Harry stops me. I turn around on my heel to look at him. "I'll text you tonight."
I nod with a small smile and head back to behind the counter.I decide to play a game on my phone for the time being. Around fifteen minutes later, I hear giggling and laughter coming from Harry's table. I look up to see Sage talking to Harry, her hand resting on his shoulder as they laugh about something.
My stomach twists as I watch them talk for a while longer but I force myself to focus back on my game.
Distracting myself keeps me from thinking about him.
And it feels wrong to not think about him.
My emotions consume me as I keep myself from looking in his direction.
