Ponyboy's pov;;
I was gazing out at the river, watching the sunset and the reflection on the water. The sunset gave the water a red tint, making the scene I was looking at look more beautiful than it originally had.
I quickly turned my attention to my best friend, and secret crush, Johnny, when he suddenly spoke up.
"Golly, this is real pretty," he looked at the sky in awe.
"It sure is, isn't it?" I continued looking at him. "We should come out here more often."
He hummed in response and nodded.
Tonight I had brought him out to a small river I found while running from socs. It had been his first time here, and my second time. This place is special to me, and I wanted to share it with him, and no one else.
Slowly I put my arm around his shoulders and pulled him closer to me. We always do this while watching the sunset or when we're looking at the stars at the lot. It brings both of us more comfort.
He laid his head on my shoulder and continued to watch the sunset.
As time passed, I got gradually more tired and eventually drifted off and fell asleep.
°°°
I got woken up by someone softly shaking me.
"Pony... Pone, wake up," someone spoke softly.
"Huh? W-what time is it?" I yawned.
"I don't know, man. I fell asleep too, but I think it's pretty late." He rubbed his eyes.
"Oh, man. We gotta go." I shot up and reached my arm down for johnny to get up too.
°°°
I walked into the house, hoping darry wasn't there.
To my surprise, he wasn't.
"Pony!" Sodapop whispered loudly. "Where were you?"
"Where's Darry?" I asked, ignoring his question.
"I told him that you were making sure johnny had a place to sleep, so he went to sleep." He said. "Now. Where were you?"
I smiled. "First, thanks man. I thought darry was gonna kill me. Second, I was with johnny watching the sunset and I accidentally fell asleep. Sorry."
"It's okay. Let's head to bed now it's 3:00am. Johnny?" He looked at johnny who was standing in the door way. "You can sleep on the couch if you want to. It's getting pretty cold out."
Johnny looked down. "I don't want to be a bother," he spoke fairly quietly.
"Aw johnny," Soda walked over and put his hand on Johnny's shoulder. "You're never a bother." He smiled.
"Okay, thanks Soda." He smiled. "Ponyboy can I talk to you?" He asked, rubbing the back of his neck.
"U-uh sure," I said.
My heart started beating faster and faster as I slowly approached the old couch where Johnny sat. I sat down beside him hesitantly.
"You alright, Ponyboy?" Johnny asked.
I realized that I had been staring down at the ground. "Yeah, sorry." I mumbled.
"Okay..." he obviously didn't believe me. "So, I've been thinking about the same thing for the past few days. I feel like I should tell you something. You may hate me for it, but I feel like it's maybe a chance I should take." He glanced up at me nervously.
