leave your heart

i can see my reflection in your dark eyes

and i can feel your warm breath on my skin

but somehow, i feel that

i've never been more distant from you.

because even though you sit with me,

your face only inches from mine,

you're galaxies away from me.

and i don't know what i could possibly

say or do to bring you back to me.

you look at me but i can't see you

because behind your still eyes,

i can see your vacant mind.

the mind that has left this place without me.

you're somewhere far away now.

why can't you take me with you?

but wherever you and your mind are right now,

can you please leave your heart?

i promise i'll take good care of it while you're gone.

because if i can't have your wild eyes

or your beautiful mind,

can you at least let me believe

that i still have your heart?
