Song for this chapter - I'm Yours by Jason Mraz.

"This is our fate; I'm yours."

Tris.
I step foot out of the four door car, making my way down to the campus of Wilbur Wright Community College. I am here to talk to the administrative counselor/dean about applying here for my general education classes and then two years of either nursing school to become an ultrasound technician, or to become a preschool teacher. I haven't decided yet, but Tobias says I should go for the ultrasound technician. He says that he thinks I would marvel in a new career, as opposed to working with children, which is what I have been doing for years now. Part of me agrees, but the opposing side says that since I have much experience with children, I would excel as a preschool teacher. I haven't done much research on either of them, but after this meeting, I will either become an undeclared major, or I will be well on my way to a career of nursing, or teaching.

As I walk to the building, the cold Chicago weather causes me to shiver, regretting that I wore only a thick white sweater with a t-shirt underneath and black skinny jeans accompanied by a pair of black boots. As I continue to walk, I silently thank God for heat.

As I walk through the doors of this college, I feel a sense of relief wash over me

As I walk through the doors of this college, I feel a sense of relief wash over me. Not only is it warm, but there is next to no commotion. I would have expected different for an early Saturday morning, but many of the students are probably out enjoying the weekend, not thinking about college or classes.

I really do wish I hadn't procrastinated getting a college degree; or fuck, going for a few short classes; for so long, but it's never too late to start, right? I guess I just never deemed it necessary, especially with Tobias always in the back of my head saying that we can't afford schooling like this. But with me being 24 and him being 27, he knows that I have wanted nothing but the best for my future offspring, and I wasn't going to be able to provide them with the best when both of us can barely afford to take a vacation once a year. I know he wants the best for them, too, my planning skills are just more advanced than his.

I spot a tall woman wearing a tan pan suit and black heels, and I can already tell that she is a professor, or administrator here. Since I have not a single clue where the dean is, I decide to ask this woman.

"Excuse me ma'am," She stops walking, giving me a faint smile and acknowledging my presence.

"Yes, dear?"

"Could you direct me to the dean's office here, please?"

"Yes, of course." She turns, making her way down the hallway that she was just walking down. I follow next to her quietly, observing the interior.

There are many rooms on both the left and right sides of the hallway, and I observe the names of each one that are plastered on the door. Astronomy, physics, chemistry. Obviously, this is more than likely the Natural Science wing.

We turn another corner, and I see another long hallway with the same setup as the one we were just walking down. The signs on these doors, though, are all math related. Algebra II, trigonometry, calculus. As I continue to read the signs on each door, I earn a few glances from students that are seated in whichever class. It's hard to comprehend that soon, that will be me.

"What are you here for, dear?" The kind woman asks me. As I look her, I notice that she is very beautiful. She has large dark blue eyes, that remind me of Tobias', perfectly aligned eyebrows that have obviously been waxed recently, and cheekbones that any woman would die for. She wears mascara that accentuates her large eyes, and a small amount of pink lipstick. Even without much makeup, she is naturally beautiful.

"I'm here to start my general education classes and either become an ultrasound tech. or a preschool teacher, I just haven't decided yet." We turn left down another hallway, and I expect to see the same setup as the previous ones, but this hallway only holds three to four rooms; much larger than the classrooms we had passed.

"That's great, I'm sure Mr. Sanchez will be happy to see you. I would walk you the rest of the way, but I have an important meeting with the rest of the board that I don't want to be late to. His office is the last one on the right. Good luck, dear." She gives me a smile and turns around before I can thank her.

'Thank you." I say, before I lose all chance to. She turns her head back, giving me a small smile and a 'you're welcome' before continuing on.

My steps are fast paced and light as I make my way to the dean's room. I can't wait to do what I've been wishing to for years; and the mere fact that I finally have the opportunity to, puts a large smile on my once neutral face.

As I knock on the door, I receive a text from Tobias, wishing me luck on my meeting today.

Things have been getting progressively better in our marriage, and I feel as though we're almost back to normal. We still have seven more weeks of marriage counseling, but I often contemplate if we really need it anymore. What we needed was communication, and now that we have made up for what we were lacking, counseling feels futile.

Tobias.
Good luck today, love. I can't wait for us to turn a new leaf and I can't wait to see what the future brings us. I love you(:

The text puts a smile on my face as I read it over a couple times, but I am startled when the door opens quickly with a large man, looking confusedly at me.

"I said 'come in,'" the man laughs, and I do too, feeling idiotic for letting technology distract me from real life; which is what I've been doing for the last couple months.

He takes a seat at his large wooden desk, which has papers cascading all over it, some making their way onto the floor. I sit in front of the desk, at one of the two small cushioned seats that accompany the desk; matching. The man gives me a smile, attempting to remove some of the papers, but failing miserably as they only cascade onto the floor. He mumbles a small, 'fuck it', looking back up at me.

"I've never seen you here before, what are you here for?"

And for the next hour, we discuss my plans for the next four years, which leads me to the question I've been dreading for the last couple weeks.

"What do you want to major in?"

I take a moment to answer, internally deciding what career I will choose for the rest of my life.

"Nursing, Mr. Sanchez."
