After his threat to kill her brother, Aurora secluded herself in the library, hidden among stacks of books and alone to read by herself. The book she had discovered seemed to add a little more to itself each day, adding on to the story that intrigued her. It was the tragic tale of a man who lost his first love and was now mourning over his feelings for her.
'If I try to send her away, she comes back. Her beautiful chestnut locks that shined in the sun, her warm, comforting brown eyes that kept me safe, and her brilliant smile that could've lit up the world. She was perfect, we were perfect.'
Aurora read on, each line drawing her in more.
'But perfection wasn't enough. She desired more, and I gave more. She had me wrapped around her finger, and I enjoyed every moment of it.'
"Mistress?"
Aurora turned around to see Youngjae.
"The master is requesting you for lunch."
She shook her head as she turned back to her book.
"Tell him I'm not hungry."
Youngjae took a deep breath and sighed. This had been going for days now; Aurora would stay in the library all day until the master finished his dinner, leaving only to eat a few crusts of bread before going to sleep and waking up early to repeat this routine of avoiding him.
"Yes, mistress."
Youngjae left her silently, allowing her to continue to read in peace.
'It had been a most tragic day when I met her. Yet I saw kindness in her eyes. She treated me as if I was of her kind. And I felt I was finally accepted.'
"You know you can't hide from me forever, Aurora."
Aurora turned to see him looking down at her in apprehension. Aurora turned back to her book as she said, "I've tried to, but you just keep on coming after me."
V scoffed as he asked, "Is it a crime for me to try to get to know my fiancé?"
Aurora ignored him and continued reading.
'She always told me to take pride in what I do. And I've always tried to live by her words. But guilt has ripped from me my morality and hope.'
He looked over her shoulder and raised an eyebrow.
"Where did you find that?"
Aurora looked at the book before turning back to him.
"I found out on one of the tables. It's so tragic, yet," V asked, "Yet what?"
"Yet beautiful. How the author describes the woman they were in love with, how she was taken away, it's so romantic." She said. He scoffed as he shook his head.
"Believe me, that story you're talking about isn't as beautiful as it sounds."
She looked at him in curiosity.
"How do you know that?"
"Because the man who wrote it, is not who you think he is."

"What would happen if the master fell in love with Aurora?"
Nayeon scoffed at her younger sister's question as she washed dishes with the young girl.
"As if that would ever happen. Dahyun, I know you're young, but you should at least know what kind of a person V is." Nayeon said with a cynical tone. Dahyun shook her head stubbornly.
"But Unnie, Sana told me this story about how a beast fell in love with a beautiful woman and he transformed back into a prince and-"
Dahyun was cut off by her older sister covering her mouth.
"Aish, stop daydreaming and wake up! There's no way that would ever happen! Not in this castle at least!" Nayeon exclaimed.
"Your older sister's right, Dahyun. This is the Devil you're talking about. How are you so sure he's capable of such feelings?" A young, male servant questioned skeptically.
Dahyun pouted as she complained, "But Yugyeom, what about true love?! Everyone has a true love!"
Yugyeom rolled his eyes as he got back to cleaning the kitchen. Nayeon shrugged as she washed another plate.
"I've heard rumors fly around he once did have a true love. She was a human, a sweet one at that, but she was killed. I heard some say she was a princess and it was by poison, I've heard others by sword because it was made known she was the lover of the Devil."
Dahyun gasped at the mention of the girl being killed.
"And apparently, that's why he's so cold hearted. But they're just rumors, so what do I know?" Nayeon concluded as she washed another pot. Dahyun shook her head and exclaimed, "That's awful!"
Yugyeom shook his head as he replied, "I don't think so. Mark's mentioned that he's had a bad past, people not accepting him and stuff like that. He hardened up and became this way."
Nayeon shrugged as she asked, "Who knows? He's always been full of secrets, so why pry?"
"But do you think Aurora will fall for him first?" Dahyun asked. Nayeon nodded.
"I hate to say it, but she's far too innocent to see his real intentions. She'll fall right into his trap. Mhm, poor girl."
Yugyeom began to mop the floor and said, "You'll have to admit, trading herself for her brother was rather risky."
"I don't know whether it was incredibly brave or incredibly stupid. I mean, after the deal was done, he could've done anything to her!" Nayeon recalled the day Aurora had sacrificed herself for Seokjin. Yugyeom mopped up the last bit of the kitchen before looking at the two sisters.
"If there's one thing the master is good at, it's having a mask for nearly everything."
