The Lies

I must get rid of these lies. They are driving me insane. I can't get anything done. Everything was going so well! But then the lies had to get in the way. Oh! Sorry. Let me rewind.
Hi. I'm Kamri Noel Taylor. I have a major problem with lying. Like a massive problem.
One day, I went to East Middle School. It was a normal day. I went to first period, health. Same as always.
Then I went to science with Mrs. Matthews. And there is my best friend, Sabrina Eleanor Smith. She sits behind me. I have known her since preschool. We had a test over the reproduction of cells, a.k.a. mitosis. It was a piece of cake. Took me less than 10 minutes.
When Sabrina got done a few minutes later, we got to talk, quietly of course.
Sabrina spoke first. She said, "I need to tell you about something. Now don't be mad, Ok?"
"What did you do?"
"It's what's best for you, I promise! You'll end up thanking me later."
This is something really bad! She never talks like that.
She continued, "I told Shawn you like him."
"How could you do this to me! You promise you never would."
"I know. I know. But I think he kinda likes you back."
I should be mad, but for some reason, I'm not. Especially if he does like me. Then I wouldn't have to lie about having a boyfriend.
"He did, however, ask about Braidy. How's he doing anyway?"
"Oh him. He's good I guess," I lied.
Sabrina asked, "Hey! Why haven't I seen him? Do you think I won't approve of him?"
"That's definitely not it. I promise. It's just that...that he's a lie."
"You need to get this lying under control! What are you going to tell Shawn?"
"I don't know, but you can't tell him."
"I won't tell him this. I promise. This is your own problem."
"If he asks about him, then I will just tell him we broke up. Simple as that!"
"If you say so. See you at lunch!" says Sabrina.
Before I can answer, the bell rings. To history! With my dad, Cory Taylor.
In his class, somehow everything he teaches goes with whatever is happening in my life.
I wonder what he has in store for today. In history, I sit in the front with some of my other friends.
Since he is one of my friends, I sit in front of Shawn.
When I get there, we have a few minutes before the bell, so everyone starts talking.
Shawn brought up Braidy, so, like I planned, I told him we broke up.
"Oh! Really!" he said.
"Yep. It's all good, though. It was mutual."
Ding! That's the bell. Time for class. Reggie Stewart is written on the board. "Who is he?" I thought to myself.
"Reggie Stewart. Does anyone know who that is?" my father says.
The smartest kid in school, GayAnn, speaks up, "Reggie Stewart was a compulsive liar."
"Good job, GayAnn. And what does that mean?"
"A compulsive liar is someone who lies so much it becomes a habit."
My stomach drops. Where is this going? Did he find out? All these thoughts flood into my mind.
"Do you know what happened to him because he was a compulsive liar?" GayAnn raises her hand. "Anyone else?" my father asks. "How about Kamri? Do you know?"
"It messed up his life?" I answered, pretending I didn't know the answer. Of course, I did, though. It is basically my life.
"Correct!" my father says excitedly.
I am good at school, but I never answer in his class. When I do he gets really excited. It's just one question, so I don't really understand.
"His habit of lying caused him to lose a bunch of things. Most of those things were very important to him even though most people thought they weren't because he would lie to them or about them all the time. He couldn't help himself, though. It was how he worked," my dad continued, "Does anyone have any ideas what he lost?" GayAnn raises her hand but he doesn't call on her. "He lost his wife, his job, his family. Basically everything."
"Oh no!" I thought. What does this mean for me? I start sweating!
Ding! Thank you! It's the bell. I dart out of his class to find Sabrina. We always walk to lunch together.
If my father asks why I left so quickly, I'll just say that I was really hungry.
Lunch time! One of my favorite times of school. Except for English. I bring my lunch to school because the food at our school is disgusting. Most of my friends do the same. For the most part, we have the same seats at the table, with me beside Sabrina and Gabriella, but today Shawn sat down beside me where Gabriella normally sits. I made sure not to say anything dumb.
When the bell rings to leave lunch, Shawn pulls me aside. He asks me if I want to go zip-lining with him.
"That sounds like fun! When?"
"Tomorrow after school," he said.
"I'll check with my parents. See you later." Then I walk off.
Once I'm out of the cafeteria, I rush to my locker, which is next to Sabrina's, and tell her the good news.
"Eeek!" she screams.
"I know!"
"I'll help you get ready."
"I hope this all goes well!"
