The smell of chicken greeted me as I entered the dining room, soft candlelight greeted me along with soft jazz playing in the background from the vintage record player, I stared at it my hands tracing the small engraving where my father in carved my mother and his initials the Christmas he got it.
"Your father spent months trying to figure out the perfect gift to give her that year."
I turned to see the man who looked so much like the man that was my father.
Uncle Phil.
He was older now of course his once fully dark hair had streaks if gray running through out and his soft hazel eyes warming me up at the familiarity of home.
"He loved that woman more than life itself, well of course until you came along." He smiled gently before embracing me into a strong hug.
"It is so good to have you back again." he whispered softly into my ear.
Before I could reply Bex came in ordering us to take our seats for dinner.
Uncle Phil took the head seat as I took the one next to him, Victor across from me as his sister took his side.
Rosa threw out the works for this one as we sat down for our feast.
Food I hadn't tasted in years lined the table, roast, salmon, dumplings, apple pie, mac and cheese, salad, and my favorite chocolate cake.
"Sorry I'm late," Blake came in kicking flustered."Mum kept me hold up." He said taking his seat by me.
Phil nodded and stood raising a glass,"Tonight we celebrate the return of my lovely niece, Aylin. Dear, it has been far to long and we thank God for your return." He settled his warm eyes once again on me,"Now let's feast."
Everyone cheered and and dug in.
I piled my plate high with food as Bex began chattering about all that I missed, mostly celebrity gossip I could care less about but I nodded and feigned agreement with her.
"Good God Aylin, slow down will you? You're going to have one hell of a stomach ache later."
Bex gasped, as she nodded towards me scooping yet another big spoonful of mac and cheese on my plate while I shoved another buttery roll into my mouth.
Swallowing I looked up at all the staring faces," Sorry there uhm wasn't alot of food on the island. Mostly berries and sticks." I mumbled shoving another forkful into my mouth.
The table got quite, so quite in fact that the soft music playing from my mother's record player could be heard.
"What was it like there?" Victor asked finally breaking the silence that had engulfed our table.
It was the question that had been asked a million times since I was found and you would think by now I would have an answer that was even remotely logical by now, but I didn't there was no just way into describing the hell I had experienced at that place.
No way of showing what I had been forced to live every day for the past four years of my life. No logical way of explaining.
Instead I turned to Uncle Phil giving him a small smile.
"Blake here tells me that you are now CEO of my father's company?"
Phil nodded as he took a sip of his wine."As for now yes, until the will is read again which will happen as soon as you are legally revived from the dead."
I shook my head," And even when it is read I will like if you continued to run it. I'm sure you'll do a better job than I ever could."
"Well that's fantastic! Perhaps you could become Co CEO?" Bex suggested in her usually cheerful self.
I wiped my mouth with my napkin and smiled gently at her."That won't be necessary, now if you will excuse me I wish to tend to my bed. After all it has been four years since we have spent a night together and I have 1,460 days to catch up on."
I got up from the table and walked up the staircase, before I was stopped by Blake,"Aylin." He said gently and I found myself backing slowly down the stairs.
"Please, dear friend save it for later." I raised my hand gently and pushed back his hair from his eyes."I really am tired and appreciate what you've done for me."
Blake nodded and leaned over and kissed my forehead gently," Night kid, I got work tomorrow but I'll squeeze you in for lunch at that pizzeria we used to go to as kids."
I nodded and then watched as he retreated down the stairs.
I found myself frowning as I made my way into my room and locking the door as I fell against it.
This was happening to quickly, I never meant to upset the ones I loved yet I was doing it anyways.
I needed to protect them at all costs, Even if that meant destroying myself in the process.
