From up above I could hear the soft pitter patter of rain bouncing softly off the cave walls.
I could barely feel the soft breeze that went past my skin as dad moved back the curtain of leaves he fabricated as he returned.
I barely registered him in front of me until he continuously snapped his fingers in front of me.
"Aylin," I heard him say faintly before he grabbed my chin softly and forced me to look at him.
"We don't have any food, and barely any water. We're both not going to survive this." He said his eyes wide with fear as he snapped his fingers again.
I shook my head though that just caused me to become even more dizzier and then my stomach growled causing me to double over in pain.
I hadn't even realized I was whimpering until dad began to sooth me by rubbing my back and pushing my hair out of the way just like mom did.
"Help will come," I rasped my voice hoarser than ever.
Though it was the same lie I had been telling myself for the past three days now and yet we were still stranded.
There was no help.
"You're going to survive this Aylin. You hear me kid? You're going to survive this and your going to go home and your going to do what I couldn't for our city." Dad began helping me to sit up straight.
He dug around him for a minute placing the single water bottle towards my lips.
I choked a bit as it soothed my dry throat, but it was just a tease to my stomach as it growled again.
"Your going to be strong you here me kid?" Dad brushed back another strand of hair and forced me to stare into his pale blue eyes.
"Your going to survive this."
"Dad." I whispered my voice barely audible."I took his hand lightly into mine and gripped it as tightly as possible.
"We're going to survive this." I corrected.
Dad gave me a faint smile as he kissed my hand,"You always did take up after your mother." Dad leaned forward and kissed my forehead, this time tears dripping down his cheeks."She would have been so proud of you."
I closed my eyes to tired to comment.
"I wish I could have made you proud to."
I raised my hand blindly as I caressed his cheek.
"I am proud."
"Be strong, Alyin."
There was a click and what happened next caused me eyes to open wide.
"Dad!" I yelled waking up from my nightmare to the clap of thunder above.
My window was open and my bed was drenched from my sweat as I shivered uncontrollably not from the cold but from the nightmare itself.
Silently tears began to flow down my cheeks as I remembered being huddled inside that cave for so long, still not believing that he had shot himself in the head for me.
I rocked back and forth remembering the look he had on his face the pain and sorrow etched into his eyes as he tried to talk to me.
But I was just so damn hungry to be bothered with him, I was so eloped with the thought of food I didn't even get to tell him goodbye.
