Dallon and I were headed to the group meeting. Group meetings were usually uneventful as most patients just talk about their day, so we weren't really looking forward to it.
Ever since Dallon and I started attending meetings together, Dr. Stump had rearranged the seating so that Dallon and I were sitting next to each other, right at the end of the circle. We hoped it would help encourage Dallon to open up more, hopefully enough so that we could be pushed closer to leaving.
"Brendon, do you have anything you want to talk about?" Dr. Stump asked.
"I just want to say that I am incredibly proud of Dallon and I am glad I have been able to help him and watch him become better. I have been able to help him open up to people, which he had not been able to do when I first arrived here. He has helped me too, in getting rid of the hallucinations of my dead ex-boyfriend that I was seeing. I am proud to say that I am absolutely in love with him and I wouldn't be the way I am without him," I declared.
The patients started to clap, praising my speech, except for a few who just kind of sat there, staring into space with no idea what was going on around them. Dr. Stump was smiling brightly at me and Dallon was blushing as red as a tomato.
"Thank you, Brendon, for that moving speech. Dallon, would you like to say anything?" Dr. Stump asked.
Dallon looked extremely nervous, but proceeded to say, "I-I just want t-to thank Brendon f-for helping me," he looked at me, grabbed my hand, and slightly relaxed. "He's helped me face my fears and has saved me from my pain. I am in love with every part of him and I am so grateful to have him."
The patients stared at him, surprised that he spoke. One of them, named Dan Pawlovich, stood up.
"I didn't even know he could talk!" Dan exclaimed.
All of the patients murmured in agreement, slowly clapping, celebrating Dallon's ability to talk.
Dr. Stump stood up and walked over to Dallon. Dallon completely towering over him, as Dallon was very tall and Dr. Stump was very short.
"I'm so proud of you!" He said. "I want to hug you right now! Can I?"
Dallon looked at me, confused. I nodded at him and he looked down at Dr. Stump, shrugging his shoulders. He bent down and awkwardly hugged him. I had never seen a more awkward hug in my life.
"Okay, everyone, you can go," Dr. Stump said, Dallon and I beginning to walk away. "Brendon, Dallon, will you come with me?"
Dallon and I looked at each other and began to follow Dr. Stump. Dallon grabbed my hand and squeezing it nervously. We followed Dr. Stump all the way to Dr. Wentz's office.
"Pete! Why didn't you tell me Brendon and Dallon were a couple? I told you to tell me everything you talked to them about!" Dr. Stump exclaimed when we walked in the office.
"Well, I always suspected they were, but they didn't say anything about it," he responded. "Why, what happened?"
"Oh, nothing, except they confessed their love for each other in front of the group! They both did! Dallon actually spoke in front of the group! It was beautiful, Pete, you should have been there!" Dr. Stump shouted, Dr. Wentz's eyes widening in amazement.
"Damn it, I knew I should have started attending the group therapy sessions! Dallon, Brendon, how long have you two been together?!" Dr. Wentz demanded.
"We got together not too long after Ryan left," I answered truthfully.
"You've been together this long and you haven't told me?!" Dr. Wentz exclaimed.
"Sorry, didn't know we had to tell you," sassed Dallon.
"Of course you did!" Dr. Wentz yelled. "I said you two were my favorite patients, that means I want to know everything!"
"You two are acting very unprofessional," I remarked. "You're our doctors."
"First of all, Brendon, you could have left how long ago, so technically, I don't need to be your doctor anymore. Second, this is huge news to us, so don't blame us for being excited," Dr. Wentz sassed back.
"Did you just bring us here to gossip about us and sass us?" I asked.
"No," replied Dr. Stump. "I thought we should discuss Dallon. He has come so far and I think he might be okay enough to go. Brendon, you're obviously going to be with him, so if he's not okay, you can help him through it. Honestly, he doesn't even need us, we weren't the ones helping him, you are. We just couldn't let him go with you because people would probably ask questions like, 'Why did you let a crazy person out if he still wasn't okay yet?' I didn't want to deal with that."
"So I can leave?" Dallon said hopefully.
"No, I still have to do some paperwork so you two can leave. You can probably leave in a couple days," said Dr. Wentz.
I jumped up and hugged Dallon tightly. "We can leave!" I started chanting.
"Thank you, Dr. Wentz, Dr. Stump," Dallon said.
"No, no more 'doctor', you guys won't be patients anymore, so you don't need to call us 'doctor'," said Dr. Wentz. "I am Pete, this is Patrick, you call us 'doctor' again and I will check you guys back into this place."
"Okay, okay," Dallon laughed.
"I can't believe it," I whispered.
"I know," Dallon said. "I love you so much."
"I love you too," I replied, leaning in and kissing him.
We were quickly interrupted by a squealing Patrick. We both looked at him strangely.
"Sorry," he said. "You guys are so cute together."
I shook my head and said, "Whatever you say, Patrick."
