Jason left town a day or two after staying with me. We caught lunch before he left and I had a chance to introduce him and Lucas properly. After kissing him I was unsure of what to do, how to act around him in front of other people. But I resorted to what I had been like before. It was better if no one else but us knew about that kiss. I told Jen the truth when she asked if Jason and I had slept together. She was a bit disappointed nothing had happened.
"You two just have such good chemistry! I could totally see it when you danced with him," She says.
For some reason I'm unsure about the butterflies in my chest when she says that. I shake my head and sigh.
"Nothing happened- as much as I like him just... Meeting him made me realise that maybe balancing work and- him- wouldn't be right." I say and Lucas hums.
He and Jen were working together now in his bar. As good at everything as Lucas was, Jen could teach him a few things.
"Milou- if you really like this guy you shouldn't let work stop you. Besides he looks like he can handle himself. I mean you did fight him yourself." Lucas says. Jen looks at me confused.
"Is that when you invited him here?" she asks.
"Yeah it's, yeah just... Lucas you know Anna could handle herself too." I say softer.
He slows and looks at me. There's a tense silence that fills the empty bar. Jen looks down, she knows the story. It hurts her just enough because of the fact that she likes Lucas. She feels for his anguish.
"Anna was different- things are different with you and him." Lucas says and I shake my head about to continue my lament of insecurities but Jen stops me.
"You know, since he's not in town anymore, just relax. Go back to work. No one's forcing you to make a decision. Besides, you two have another case," She hum throwing a bar rag into a clean bucket.
"You're right, on top of the-what?- five or six others?" Lucas sighs. I set the file on the bar.
"We can't even touch it. It's all gang related but it's got ties to high end corporate corruption and conspiracy. The city is literally sending cases to us so that the cases die." I say and Lucas smirks and turns the file so that he can glance over it again.
"Sound's like you're giving up Shaw," he taunts.
"Who said I was giving up Abernathy?" I snap back.
Jen smirks a little with an amused hum.
"What?"
"Abernathy- sorry just a funny name."
"Yeah it's a pretty white name-"
"Look who's talking Shaw." Lucas rolls his eyes at me.
"What's your last name Jen? Or even your full name?"
"Oh Jen is just a nickname. My full name Is Jenchi O'haira. My family if very slavic." She says and Lucas quirks a intrigued brow at her.
"O'haira, I like it." He smiles.
