Chapter nine:
Back to school:
Between going to classes and trying to figure out what Nathaniels secret was, I can safely say that I'm going crazy.
Because I was a junior, this year's classes are unbearable. Okay, unbearable was a bit overstated. But I still couldn't focus on all this work. Not only was I trying to get Nathaniel to unknowingly spill his secret but I was also trying to move on from him.
Yeah, I know. We never really had anything that I needed to move on from. But come on, if you thought that you had a chance with an Abercrombian and then having your hope squished completely by his girlfriend and his side-chick, what would you do?
And as if that wasn't enough, he was in all of my classes. I didn't mind until he started talking about Sandra in one class then about Synaria in the next. I was starting to think he was trying to rub it in my face that I couldn't have him.
And that is why I was sitting in the canteen with uneaten lunch in front of me.
"And then, I asked her if she was cold because I felt her shiver slightly. She refused my offer when I gave her my jacket. She said that because she was born in London she's used to the cold weather. I've always been one for romantic gestures but I found the rejection fairly hot" Nathaniel said taking a bite from his chicken sandwich.
"Oh that's cool" I said faking my interest in him and Synaria's date.
"I know right?" he said taking another bite.
The canteen wasn't really full. Most of the students skip lunch to catch up on work. I found that highly ridiculous. But basically everyone at our school is snobby British brats.
As for me, I can't stay away from my food.
"Hey, guys. What's up?" said Duncan when he and Alyssa sat down at our table.
"Oh, nothing. We were just talking" Nathaniel answered before I could answer.
I gave Alyssa a look that said save-me-from-this-torturous-convo. She gave me a sympathetic smile.
"So, Alyssa and I are having a movie night on Saturday. You guys down?" Duncan asked.
"I'm down" Nathaniel said wiping his mouth with a napkin.
"H, are you in?" Al asked me.
"Urh, I guess so. Yeah" I shrugged. Not like I had anything better to do.
"Okay, so come to my room at five p.m. Bring whatever snacks you want to. And wear your pj's" Duncan explained.
I nodded and asked "What movies will we be watching?"
"You'll see on Saturday" Alyssa said with a wink.
I narrowed my eyes suspiciously at her.
"Can't wait" Nathaniel said excitedly.
Honestly, I could wait.

That night, I slept with a frown on my face. I couldn't help replaying how happy Nathaniel was as he spoke of his girlfriends.
Why couldn't I be one of them?
That question, among many others, was questions that I couldn't answer. I guess I'm going to have to seek my answers
And I need to get then as soon as possible.
