"Goddess, did you make me this stupid or I just turned stupid because I aged?" Dorothy whispered facing the sky. She didn't think about the risk of driving to a secluded area filled with rogues before she started the car but now she realised it was an awful idea. It's not only because of the wooden sign nailed to a tree that read 'No vehicles allowed' but also the fact that the car could get stolen or smashed by angry and destructive rogues. Locking the doors and double checking by pulling the handle, she did a sharp intake of breath and started her journey along the path.
The path looked peaceful. The trees, wind and leaves were in consonance with one another, each emitting vibrance. The word beautiful was an understatement. She felt at ease as this was her natural habitat, a place she could run till her feet tires, where she could let her wolf out with no fear of being seen or hunted down. She missed the feeling of being surrounded by trees. Although living among humans was a bit interesting but it wasn't home. Being in a pack is home, being with people of the same specie as hers is home but most importantly, being with family is home. She didn't want to think about her loss anymore but the thought of family brought back memories she had tried to bury.
"you are strong Dora, crying is for the weak and you will not be weak, not anymore" she said every word with strain and confidence as she picked up her pace and sprinted down the path. But even the blind could see through her that she isn't weak because she cries but weak because she can't get over what has happened.
As she ran in her human form, she caught the scent of another wolf, a rotten scent but with a pinch of sea breeze. Abruptly stopping, she stayed still and listened. She could hear footsteps but it was from a single person on both feet just like she was and it was getting closer and fast. She continued her walk until she felt herself yanked backwards.
"oh my god, I'm sorry for pulling you I just wanted to catch up. I'm feeling a little lost though, could we walk together? I know you are a werewolf but you smell a little different from a rogue, so what are you? "
Dorothy didn't know whether she should freak out about the fact that a rogue was being nice to actually start a conversation with her but she still felt it's the right thing to do. If anything she learnt in the few month of being independent was to keep her friends close and enemies closer.
"well apology accepted, we could walk together, I smell just fine and I'm not a rogue, well not yet""so what are you? " the girl inquired further, her green eyes held curiosity and adventure. Dorothy couldn't help but admire the girl's feature, her ginger hair was packed into a messy ponytail. Even with no form of makeup on, the girl had really long eyelashes and her lip really plump and pink. She couldn't help but feel self conscious. Even a filthy rogue was better than her, she didn't even deserve to call the girl before her filthy, if there was any word to describe her, it will be beautiful, a diamond in the rough, a fairy, a-"
"are you even here? Hey stranger who smells like strawberry" the girl waved her hands in front of a thinking Dorothy. "well my name is Keith and I'm twenty years old, what's yours? "
"I'm Dorothy, and I'm eighteen. To answer your question earlier, I am a -a umm lone umm wolf" she couldn't control her nervousness any longer, the girl before her was older and far more prettier than her. She felt a bit intimidated and allowed her insecurities get the best of her.
"gosh, no need to be all shaky, I might be a tween but I still got the brain of a teen. Oh my goodness, I just rhymed. My mom tells me I have the brain of a child but I think teen seems better than that though. I mean have you met me, I can't even stop rambling . I'm doing it ain't I? Wow, you're a lone wolf, haven't heard of those in a while"
The two continued their walk. The path still seemed to lead a lot farther than they imagined, neither of them would dare to stop. They could run in their wolf form and cover more distance than on foot but they knew the risk of doing that. The path being this far only meant it's a test of how well they could use their human form. They both enjoyed the scenery and colors. The way the colors blended well with one another and the ray of sunlight they witnessed only made the long excruciating journey worth it.
(imagine the path this way)
"what did the ocean say to the other ocean? "
"what?" Dorothy replied her with a very sharp tone. The twenty year old walking beside her had a very big problem keeping quiet for a minute. She has been talking none stop since they met and Dorothy wasn't liking any second of it."Nothing they just waved. Did you sea what I did there? "
she replied with a tired no
"I'm shore you did"
"how old did you say you were? " the girl being twenty still seemed unbelievable and Dorothy felt she should ask to be sure.
"don't be such a beach" she replied "at least I'm better than some loser who felt it was a good idea to drive to a place packed it rogues" chuckling to herself and giving a slight punch to Dorothy's shoulder who later joined the laughter.
At least she made a friend, if that's what she could call Keith. Her only prayer was that they shouldn't be made to fight against one another during the tournament.
