Rin shivered. It wasn't a particularly chilly night, but she had been walking for a good few hours now under the blood moon. She was following her lord Sesshomaru, and leading Ah-Uhn along at her side.

The bird-demon was getting old and slower in her years, and could no longer carry Rin the lengthy miles they traveled together. Rin herself was older, too. She was now officially a slender and well developed young woman. Thin features and a light sprinkle of freckles, and long, dark, straight hair.

Whenever she passed by any other human or demon along their journeys, she was conscious of their eyes surveying her figure. As she trudged along in the night, her mind wandered to how Jaken had always scowled and remarked at how improper and rude the stares were whenever they ventured into villages for goods.

The women of villages would always give shy smiles and the occasional timid waves. Sometimes, there would be glares or looks of jealousy. From the men, there were typically lewd stares and sly mutterings to each other. Rin didn't have to put up with that too often, though. She only traveled into villages to pick up things she needed from Kagome, like bug repellent, deodorant, and feminine products.

Rin carried her belongings in a small blue satchel and wore a lavender kimono. Jaken had gifted her the bag shortly before he passed away. It had been a good year since they found the frog demon dead. He had lived quite a long and happy life of servitude under Sesshomaru, and seemed to have died peacefully in his sleep. When they found his corpse in the morning, Rin began to cry immediately.

Looking back on the moment, she still questioned what she saw in Sesshomaru's eyes. Was it simply sadness? Or was there a flash of empathy towards her as well? They carried the small body to a nearby river and let the current sweep him away.

Later that night, she noticed Sesshomaru staring into space much more than usual. She wanted to talk to him, ask him how he felt and if he was planning to replace Jaken. She wanted to cry into his shoulder and feel his strong embrace. But she knew she couldn't ask for that then or now, as she waked along in the serenade of the crickets.

Inhaling deep, she could smell that they were approaching a pine forest. They would probably bed down there, she hoped. Her heart sunk a little.

How long had it been since she started yearning for him? She took another deep breath. About 16 she would guess her feelings began to develop. That was around the time she noticed her breasts felt heavier, and the ache in her belly formed when she saw him without his armor on. When he was just in his silk robes, it was too temping to look at him.

Rin had managed to suppress these feelings for a few years now, but each day it grew more difficult. Especially during summer nights like these, when all she wanted was to curl up by his side and share their body warmth. Her undisclosed desires were as deep and unwavering as her loyalty for her lord. She owed her life several times over to him now, after all.

Sesshomaru wordlessly led them into the conifer forest and to a soft, flat bed of pine needles. Rin tied Ah-Uhn to a nearby tree and retrieved their blankets from the packs the creature had been carrying. The bird demon laid down and quickly fell asleep. Rin handed Sesshomaru's blanket roll to him, their fingers barely brushing. It was still enough to make Rin's nipples harden. She quickly went about laying her own bedding down to distract herself from her feelings. Sesshomaru, on the other hand, seemed to notice nothing as he went about unfurling his bedding as usual.

Just like normal, they slept about four feet apart. Rin didn't recall how this custom came about, but she was exhausted from walking all day and so she laid down right away. She watched as her lord lifted his heavy armor and swords off and laid it on the ground next to him. She could see the outlines of all his muscles through his silk clothing, and once again felt the deep ache within her belly begin to throb.

A feeling of desperation washed over her. She was scared about how strong her feelings were. She felt she was reaching the limit of her tolerance for this daily torment. She could no longer please or satiate herself or her urges. Those were only things he could satisfy. He had always looked after and taken care of her safety and needs. But she couldn't ask him to take care of this one.

Recently, in her mind she had been referring to Sesshomaru as her Love as a way to cope with the strength of her feelings. She cursed this habit of hers, however, because it had caused her to almost slip up several times aloud. Instead of replying "yes, my Lord" she would find herself coming dangerously close to saying "yes, my Love."

She laid down and swaddled herself in her blankets, staring up at the stars she could see through the tree branches. She sighed and closed her eyes. She knew her Lord wasn't asleep yet, and wanted to say something to him. They typically didn't, but what could be the harm of a simple goodnight? Before she could back out, she steeled herself and whispered shyly,

"Goodnight, my Lord."

The seconds that passed as she waited seemed like eternities. She felt nowhere near brave enough to turn and look at her lord (she could see out of the corner of her eye his eyes were still shut), and so she waited apprehensively. Then, out of the cricket-speckled darkness came:

"Goodnight, my Rin."

Her heartbeat almost doubled it pace, the throb in her low belly became almost painful. She let her eyes grow a little wider. Could he have any idea what reaction he evoked in her? His Rin? Did he mean anything by that? After the shock wore off, she let the relief flood in. A little smile settled on her lips, and she fell asleep content.
