Rin awoke still wrapped in the arms of her Lord. It was very late at night, but she had to go pee. When she came back, Sesshomaru had woken, and rolled onto his back. She crawled back into her position snugged up against his chest. They both listened to the crickets and stared up at the stars.

Sesshomaru squeezed his arm around her, and leaned down to kiss her forehead. Rin sighed contently, and laced one of her hands in his. Rin thought they were going to try and drift off again, but instead he spoke in low, relaxed tones, his diaphram vibrating near her head.

"I think we should get you marked by a priestess when we return to the Castle."

Rin responded half asleep, "Wouldn't that require black magic and needles?"

"Your forehead would be tattooed, like mine. My blood for ink, my hand under a spell. You would be under a spell for the pain too."

"But black magic?" Rin responded, drowsy.

"The tattoo is clean magic, it would protect you from ever carrying anyone else's pup. For the pup to be full demon, we would employ a Dark Priestess."

Rin got distracted by his heartbeat, drifting off, "We...can do the tattoo...then....m'love."

He listened to her drift off, the soft rhythm of her breathing, the smoothness of her skin, the sweetness of her voice. He stroked her hair gently, absentmindedly thinking of what she would look like with his crescent on her forehead. He was thankful on some deep level for her open and free cooperation.

He thought back to all the overheard conversations and arguments between his father and Inuyasha's mother. The countless hours of arguing down the stone corridors, echoing off the walls, her voice protesting being tattooed with the marks of Sesshomaru's father.

There was none of that with Rin. He stared into the endless sky, seeing a shooting star. He thought of the eternity he had spend resisting the urge to even kiss her, let alone leave her squirming, breathless, and naked on her camp bed.

So many nights he fantasized about how he would take her, and so he contemplated how greatful he was that Rin finally got up the courage to kiss his bandage, on a similar night not too long ago.

The army would be arriving on the mountaintop in the morning. They didn't have flying steeds like Ah-Uhn, only horses. When they arrived, he would assign guards to protect Rin before suiting up and traveling the short distance to face yet another rival demon clan.

With the possibility of Rin being pregnant, he cursed his past self for ever letting her be left so entirely alone. Of course he could always sense when she was in danger. But sensing was never the problem, no, it was always a question of getting there in time.

Sesshomaru closed his eyes and imagined himself walking back to the campsite after battle tommorow. He would send everyone away, hopefully with no soldiers to bury, and he would get his wounds tended to by Rin.

He would find peace again with her, and head back to their castle, and the child who waited back there for her. It struck him, having two human women under the roof of his castle.

The life he was living certainly was unexpected. But then again, without them he would be lost. He could not remember life before that bruised up little orphan girl offered him water. Before she followed him, before she died of wolves, before he saved her life.

Did he save her out of pure curiosity? Of course, that's how it started. That's how it all started. How was he supposed to know what it would become?

He drifted off, his demon subconscious on standby for the both of them.
