Author POV-
It was during the mid of night that her blood ran cold and her own screams pierced her ears. Seconds later, the brisk footsteps of her parents resonated while she broke out into tears. Her knees were pulled up to her chest as her wails of despair as her parents attempted to console her. She cried and wailed harder and tried desperately to avoid the four eerie ghost-like eyes that wouldn't leave her vision. "T-The Eyes!", she whispered over and over...
"It was the Eyes..."
Her parents shared a distressed gaze before her father, Sincere, lifted her into his lap and rocked her back and forth. "Babygirl, the Eyes aren't real. They're a myth people tell their kids to make them behave. You're a good girl so there's no need to make you feel scared anymore.", Sincere wiped her tears away with his thumb and her sniffles slowly ceased as she relaxed back into her slumber...
Unknowing of her parents' lies...

Six year old Blythe sat upon the lap of her beloved Grandmother, Hazel, while she shared a few stories of her youth. "...And then your Grandfather, Alexander, and I went to the drive-in movie. He'd put his arm around me and I just knew that we'd be together forever.", she sat back in reminiscence of their first date just as Alexander came in with a plate of fresh baked cookies and a glass of milk on a tray. "And we've been in love ever since.", he planted a kiss on both his queen and his princess's cheek before handing Blythe a cookie.
Just then a thought occurred to Blythe so she quickly ate her treat before washing it down with her milk. "Guys? You won't leave me...will you?", she played with the digits of the family's matriarch. Both of the elders shared a look similar to the gaze her parents shared a few nights before. As if by telepathy, they both shook their heads at the young girl before Hazel spoke up, "Babygirl, I can promise you that we'll never leave you.".
So Blythe was content with the reply of her elders and resumed eating her milk and cookies without a moment's hesitation, unaware that while the elders were keeping their promise, it wasn't going to be in the way she thought...
