Hollis' P.O.V.
I woke up with the sun in my face. For a moment, i forget where i was. When i looked next to me, i saw Kit sleeping. Soon he started to move and open his eyes.
"Good morning!" I said.
"Good morning Hollis! How did you sleep?" He asked.
"Better than i have ever slept before! How did you sleep?" I replied.
"Well thank you! I slept well!" He said. I got up and began to walk out of the room. "Where are you going?" Kit asked.
"To my room to get dressed and ready for the day. Why?" I replied laughing.
"Don't think you are just going to leave and go to work!" He said.
"Well what am i going to do then?" I asked laughing again.
"Take the day off with me! I want to go back into town and i want you to show me where you grew up when you were very young and the house you own! It was lovely to go out yesterday and be normal! Let's do it again!" He told me.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"Yes. It is all i want to do. Tomorrow is my father's funeral for the public and i want a good day today before we have to put him to rest for the last time." He said.
"Okay. Let me go to my room and get dressed!" I replied running off quickly to my room. I didn't want anyone to see me in such a nice night gown because then questions would be asked. It was a beautiful gold silk color. I was about to get to my room and ran into someone. Luckily, it was just Jane.
"What are you doing?!" She asked me looking at my dress.
"I slept in Kit's room now im going to wash it and change. We have errands to run." I told her.
"We?!" She questioned.
"I will explain later! I have to get ready." I said running into my room. I washed up and got dressed in a blue dress that went above my ankles. I put on black flats too. This was one of my favorite dresses. I quickly and delicately washed the all silk night gown, folded it, and took it back to Kit's room. I knocked on the large wooden door.
"Come in!" I heard him yell. I walked back in and handed him the gold night gown. "Why are you giving me this?" He asked laughing.
"Well it is yours!" I replied.
"Does it look like i wear this to bed?" He questioned.
"I don't know!" I said with a smile.
"Keep it. It reminds me of my mother." He replied with a small smile forming as he sat down on the bed.
"Why is that?" I asked sitting next to him.
"Because it was hers. She would always wear it around the palace and it makes me think of the days when she was around. This was the only thing she wanted to wear. She hated wearing formal dresses." Kit said with a chuckle.
"This is why im giving it back." I told him while putting it in his lap. He felt the silk and smiled.
"I don't want it back. I want you to wear it. You looked beautiful in it and it makes me happy to see someone happy in it again." He replied putting it back in my hands.
"Okay. Thank you." I said setting it down on the bed.
"We should get going into town now." He told me.
"Okay!" I replied. We snuck downstairs and got our horses out. Both of us hopped on and rode into town. There was music playing and people dancing like always. We got something to eat first and then walked around town. Today we went into some shops and did some shopping. Kit got a few clothes that he could wear when he is out in public. We walked into this store called Donatello's. As a child, my parents would get my clothes made here! It is a lovely store! Kit was looking at some hats. I started looking at the dresses they had on display and found the most beautiful i have seen them make. It was my mother's favorite color pink.
"It would look lovely on you." Kit told me. I was startled by him walking up behind me.
"Oh. Thank you." I replied tucking a piece of hair behind my ear.
"You should get it." He added.
"I cant." I said.
"Why not?" He asked.
"Because i don't have anywhere to wear it and i cant afford it. I make all of my clothes because i cant afford to buy them." I replied walking away. There was another dress that i started looking at that i could surprisingly could afford! It was plain black and i could wear it for the funeral tomorrow. I walked up to the lady at the counter and bought it. Kit and i walked back outside and got on our horses. "Can you show me the house you own?" Kit asked.
"I would love to." I replied. We went out of town and to a remote place down a very long road. I could see the large brick wall in front of me and began to see the house. The key around my neck opened the gate and the doors to the house. I opened the gate and locked it behind me so the horses couldn't get out.
"Home sweet home." I said getting off of my horse.
"This place is beautiful." Kit told me looking around at all of the animals. The flowers were growing and it was still as beautiful as i remember. I unlocked the front door and walked inside to see the butterfly wallpaper that my mother loved. The staircase was exactly as i remembered. I walked around the house showing Kit the rooms and places i loved the most. The last room was my parents room. I haven't been in it since they passed away. My hands rested on the door knobs and pushed the door open. When i walked inside, there was a box on the bed. I have never seen it before. When i walked up to it, it had my name on it. It was my mother's handwriting. I opened the box and saw a letter. I began to read it.
'Hollis, im not sure when you will find this but i hope it is before you are married and have children. Your father and i want you to know that we didn't die. We left the palace and came to live here for a few years. The only reason we worked there, is for you to have a good life for you. I hope you and Kit are still best friends. Your father and i always wanted you and him to get married. Not to become the queen, but because you two are perfect for each other. In this box is something that i want you to have on your wedding day and i want you to give to your children and something i want you to give to Kit. You will know what is for who. Now your father and i have passed on. We love you so much. I hope you are living a life you deserve. Goodbye Hollis.' I looked inside the box and saw a flower crown my mother wore on her wedding day. I always wore it as a child and said i would wear it when i got married. Then i looked and saw my favorite stuffed animal as a child. It was given to my by my grandmother. The last item was a hat that my father had loved. He wore it all the time when he traveled. I smiled at myself and looked at Kit.
"My mother and father wanted me to give this to you. It was my fathers and he always wore it. This was the only thing i think he couldn't live without besides my mother. It is for you." I told him. He smiled at me as i handed him the hat.
"I love it. I remember your father always wearing it. We tried to get him to not wear it and he refused." Kit said laughing. "I love it. Thank you." He told me putting it on.
"It suits you." I said smiling and fixing it.
"May i read the letter?" He asked.
"Sure. Just know this is what my parents thought." I told him handing him the paper. I looked at the stuffed animal that my grandmother gave me and smiled at it. Also in the box was my mothers wedding dress. She knew i loved it so much. It was a white corset with yellow, pink, and blue flowers on the bottom. It matched the flower crown. There was another note on the dress.
'I know how much you loved it. And i know you would probably change some things on the dress. I approve of it being cut up and made into something new.' I smiled at the letter. My mother knows me so well. Kit folded up the letter and handed it to me.
"Your parents were too kind." He said. I smiled at him and nodded. Kit caressed my cheek and wiped my tear away. He planted a kiss on my forehead. "Shall we head back?" He asked. I nodded in response.
"Would i be able to take this back with me?" I questioned.
"That is a silly question! Of course you can!" He said. I took the box and put it on my lap on my horse. We rode back to the palace. It was past dinner time by the time we got back. I walked upstairs to my room and put the box under my bed. I took a shower and then got dressed in the beautiful gold night gown Kit gave me. Soon there was a knock on my door. When i opened it, Kit was standing outside in his loose white shirt and pants.
"Are you okay?" I asked. He looked very upset.
"Im feeling very alone in my fathers room. Would you be able to lay down with me?" He questioned shyly.
"Of course! I know how it feels." I replied walking down the hall with him. "You never have to ask me twice to sleep in your room. You have the best bed in the world." I said to lighten the mood. Kit smiled at my comment. We walked inside his room and climbed into bed. I saw a tear on Kit's cheek reflect in the moonlight. My thumb went up to his cheek and wiped it away. I started to run my fingers through his hair.
"This is very relaxing." He said in a soft voice.
"Sometimes you need something to help you relax." I laughed while continuing to play with his longer hair.
"Good night Hollis. I love you." He told me. That was the first time in a while he told me that.
"Good night Kit. I love you." I replied. Tonight i went to sleep with the biggest smile on my face. How do people like me end up like this?
