Chapter 8

Hollis' P.O.V.

Today was the day of the second ball! I am so excited!!! Jane brought be breakfast and started to help me do my hair.
"So what is going on with you and Kit?" She asked.
"I don't know. He wants to throw another ball and find this girl but then i think he likes me but i don't know." I said.
"Well, he should like you better tonight because i found the most beautiful dress for you!" She replied. "It is now winter so i found you a dress that would go along with the winter season!" She added. I smiled as she continued to help me get ready. During the process of getting ready, i was nibbling on some fruit. "Are you ready to get dressed?" She asked me.
"I am! Im excited to see this dress you've been talking about!" I replied. I felt the dress slip over my body and onto my shoulders. The dress was zipped and she helped me slide my shoes on. I could feel her flip the dress out.
"Are you ready?" She asked.
"Beyond ready!" I replied.
"Okay! Open your eyes!" Jane told me. I saw one of the most beautiful gowns i have ever seen! It was and just beautiful!
"Jane!!! This is the most beautiful dress!!! Im in love!" I told her spinning around. I looked like a princess.
"Well go downstairs! This is the winter ball!! You don't want to be late!" She said. I smiled at Jane and hugged her.
"Thank you!" I whispered running out of my room and down to the main ballroom. Not knowing that i was supposed to enter through the main doors, i snuck through the portrait room.
"Hollis?" I heard. When i turned around, i saw the captain. As soon as i saw him and smiled. "You look beautiful!!!" He told me.
"Thank you Captain! Jane helped me!" I said.
"She did well yet again!!" He replied.
"You wouldn't happen to know where Kit is, would you?" I asked him.
"Um, you might not want to visit him right now." He told me.
"Why is that?" I asked looking in the crowd. I saw Kit with that blonde girl from last time. It broke my heart to see that again. "Oh." I replied. "It is okay. Im happy if he's happy!" I said. I walked out onto the ballroom floor and heard my name again. When i turned around i didn't know who called my name.
"Do you remember me?" A man said walking up to me.
"Oh my goodness! Skylar is that you?!" I asked looking at him. He was my best friend when i was very young! Our parents were very good friends. We smiled at each other and hugged.
"How have you been?! You look amazing by the way!" He told me.
"Thank you! You do to! I've been great! Things are complicated but they are good! How are you?!" I asked.
"I am good! Things are great by the way! Would you like to dance and catch up?" He questioned me.
"I would love to!" I replied with a smile. We went onto the ballroom floor and started to dance. It was nice to catch up with him and hear how his family is and his younger sister! We were having a wonderful time! There was a tap on my shoulder in between songs. I turned around and saw Kit. He looked just stunning.
"Hollis, you look," He was just looking at me and couldn't finish.
"You do too." I replied laughing.
"Who is this?" Kit asked gesturing to Skylar.
"This is my childhood friend, Skylar! I just ran into him here! It was great!" I said smiling and hugging him. Kit put his hand out to shake Skylar's hand.
"Ooh. Firm grip." Skylar said looking in pain.
"May i steal her for a dance?" Kit asked Skylar.
"Of course! I will speak with you later Hollis! Don't leave without talking to me!" He said.
"Okay!" I replied walking away with Kit.
"Who was he?" Kit asked dancing to me.
"You already asked that." I said laughing.
"Ooh." He replied not looking too happy.
"What's wrong?" I questioned.
"Nothing." He said flatly.
"There is something wrong obviously!" I replied with a big smile and small giggle.
"No. Nothing is wrong." He said again.
"Is it that girl from last time?"
"No." He said.
"Then what could it possibly be?!" I questioned.
"Just forget it. We can talk about it later." He told me still looking sad.
"Okay then. Why aren't you dancing with that girl from last time?" I asked.
"She had to leave." He replied coldly. I grabbed Kit's hand and pulled him off the floor and dragged him all the way upstairs to his room. "Why did you drag me up here?" He asked.
"Because there is something wrong and you wont tell me!" I replied laughing.
"I just don't like Skylar." He told me.
"Why?" I asked him.
"I don't know. He doesn't seem like a good person." He said.
"Kit, I've known him my whole life. He is like a brother to me!" I replied with a chuckle.
"I guess so." Kit said smiling at me.
"Can i ask you something?" I asked him.
"Sure." He replied.
"Why aren't you out there dancing with that girl? You have been crazy about here and now you left her to dance with me and be angry about Skylar. You've been chasing her forever now." I questioned.
"Because i woke up. I learned that i was falling for someone i don't belong with. My father told me to go with who i know is right. I don't think she is the one. I feel for her because of her beauty, not her personality. She is a nice woman and very sweet but i cant be with her." He said taking my hand.
"What made you change your mind?" I asked.
"You."
"Me?" I replied.
"Yes you. You are my best friend. The only friend I've had and i love you very much. I want someone in my life who is my best friend." He replied looking at me with his beautiful blue eyes.
"Okay. Lets get back out there. People will wonder where you've gone." I told him.
"I think im going to stay back here and think. I know Skylar wants to talk to you but come back here when you're done." Kit said standing up and kissing my cheek.
"I'll be back." I told him walking out and back into the ballroom. I saw Skylar outside walking around. "Having fun?" I asked standing next to him.
"A blast." He replied as we both laughed. "Lets walk." He said taking my hand as we walking into the garden. "So what is going on with you and The King?" Skylar asked me.
"What do you mean?" I replied laughing.
"You know exactly what i mean. He doesn't like me because im another male around you. He is protective over you."
"So what? We've been friends for a long time." I said.
"Friends don't act like that around other guy friends." He replied.
"Who knows." I told him with a smile.
"We both know." He said winking at me. "I really must go. I have to go help my sister get into bed. She is having a blast here." Skylar told me.
"I hope she had fun!! I have something for you to give her." I said. I reached into my bra and took out an old bracelet that i wore everyday when i was his sisters age. I left to work at the castle before his sister was born. She is a shy young girl. Skylar doesn't want to introduce her to me yet. My parents gave this to me to protect me from everything.
"This is your bracelet from when you were little. It meant everything to you." Skylar said.
"I know. When i was her age, i needed something like this in my life to remind me who loves me. Give this to her. I want her to have it." I said while handing it to Skylar. "Don't argue with me on this. Give it to her."
"Thank you Hollis. She will love it." Skylar said giving me a hug and kissed my cheek. "Goodnight. Make sure you visit more. When we had time i want you to meet her. Thank you again Hollis. I love you." He said.
"I love you too." I replied walking inside. I walked into Kit's room and i couldn't find him in there. There was a beautiful gown laying on the bed. It looked as silky as the nightgown Kit gave me. I took my hair out and let it fall naturally. There was a note on the dress too.
'Hollis, meet me in the dining room. No heels, no fancy hair do, just you. -Me'
I took my white dress off and slid the gold dress on. It was a little long on me but it didn't matter. It was beautiful. The dress hugged me in all the right places. I liked how i looked. I never wear anything like this. I walked down the hall and into the empty dining room. When i opened the door, there were candles lining the room. There was enough room for me not to be worried about catching on fire. There were rose petals on the floor too. I covered my mouth and looked up. Kit was standing there in gold loose pants and he didn't have a shirt on. It felt like i was in a dream. It was so soft and dreamy. In the corner there was a violin player in the corner. She started playing one of my favorite classical songs. Kit came up to me and started dancing with me. I felt like i was on a cloud.

After we were done dancing we sat on the floor and talked for a while. What is happening between us now?
"Hollis, i cant go on like this. I need you to know that im in love with you and im crazy for you. Skip the relationship. Marry me Hollis. Im in love with you."
