Chapter 4 - Baby Lewis

A new day has started, and what is nice about it is that I already have a to-do list. collect as much information about the kidnapping case, check on Moira, finish the office area unpacking, and go for a long run to think. But where can one run in the middle of the city ?. It is not the time to miss my home and the sweet fishing village I used to live in for the last ten years. No, I won't buy a treadmill, I'll run late on the sea corniche.

It's better to prepare a pot of my favourite Indian tea and take it with me to the office, still I've to solve the issues of the personal assistant and house keeping soon. Now to the online media titles and reports, I need as many points of view on the case as I can get.

Now, there are very shocking stories here. God, a celebrity chef has killed his wife and cooked her !. "I hope he didn't serve her in his restaurant, I'll add a reminder not to eat in restaurants for a while." I told myself with a squeamish feel of disgust. And here, a new home for the abducted orphan who was abducted then returned to the orphanage six months later to the day. "who would abduct a baby and return it six months later !. What the hell is wrong with humanity ! has the world gone mad already !?."

Ah, finally to the story I'm searching for. Daphne Clarke, a young woman of twenty seven, who is the lady friend of Lord Malumborough the apple orchard tycoon with the huge success story in business regardless to his noble title. Miss. Clarke has been working in the PR department of Sir Rupert Hamilton holding company for about three years, she has attracted the the attention of the fifty five widower and started dating little over a year. Miss. Clarke has a three years old son called Lewis, his father has never been known and some are guessing he was a sperm donor through a sperm bank.

I was wondering "why all the news reports focus on the mother not the baby !. May be because of her connection to a philanthropic and art parton nobleman !". Anyway, baby Lewis seven weeks shy of his third birthday has been kidnapped from a seashore cabin in the elite resort of Paloma beach where he and his mother were having a short vacation. Miss. Clarke has just finished her morning bath and went to check on her son, to find him disappeared and the big French window doors in the living room area of the cabin opening directly on the beach sands are widely open. Frantically Miss. Clarke has dialed 333 to ask for help and report her son missing. The police preliminary investigations reported that the baby has been taken early in the morning while his mother was asleep in the adjacent room, no fingerprints nor any clues inside or outside the cabin can lead to who has done it.

Miss. Clarke was alone with her son in the cabin, they have just arrived the previous day and with no nanny. Baby Lewis's nanny had a personal matter she needed to resolve so Miss. Clarke has given her a leave for the weekend. Most of the media reports concluded that baby Lewis has been kidnapped for a ransom referring to the imminent expectations of marriage between Miss. Clarke and the billionaire Sir. Rupert Hamilton. Baby Lewis has been kidnapped on the 21st of September and today is the 27th yet no ransom note nor any requests to ensure the toddler's safe return have arrived.

Here is another piece about the incident with some journalistic investigative efforts, the employees of the resort gates told the journalist that Miss. Clarke has arrived with her son on the previous day and never left the resort until the police call on the next morning. Her car licence number didn't appear in any log leaving or entering the gates since she has arrived. No visitors came to her cabin from the outside, and not all the employees know Miss. Clarke by face although she has stayed in the resort many times before. The management of the resort is very annoyed by the incident, offering all the help they can and still insist on the safety of their resort.

These are not enough information by any means to lead me to form a solid opinion, and more over they don't mention which police agency is having the case !. First, the case will go through the police dispatch to the local police precinct, but any case regarding children is known to be always investigated by the Justice Bureau of Investigation the "JBI". I don't know anyone in the JBI, may be I should give Daniel Graham a call !.
