When I arrived at work I ran into my assistant, Lui, "Honey, you have so many orders! The first one is an order for your scrumptious pineapple upside-down cake," His feminine voice a little frustrated. I work at a bakery. It's a huge one, really, there are tons of other workers. I'm often over looked, my boss thinks that if you don't kiss his backside, I'm dirt. But what the old mole-rat doesn't know, is that I'm the only reason his company is still up and running. Well, Lui and I.
He's a great little helper. He takes all the orders and puts the cakes in the oven, and takes them out. Oh, and his butter-cream frosting; I gained 3 pounds. I'm serious. Lui never fails me, he's the only that knows that Aiden isn't my son. All the other men and women give me dirty looks, one time, a woman that works as a waitress said to another woman, 'One night stand gone wrong!' I remember crying in the bathroom after I head that. They criticize me, because they believe that I'm a single mother. But If they knew, they really knew, they wouldn't have ever said the hurtful things they did.
"Alright, alright, bring me my apron." I told him pulling up my hair in a bun. I started by setting the oven to 350, and then made my batter. When my boss came by to check up on me and Lui, I was already on my 5th order, everyone else was still on their first or second. "So, I see your red velvet cupcakes are still a big hit, as well as your brittle." The mole rat looked at my work station, it had brittle, cupcakes, cakes, brownies, and other sweet items. "Ah, yes, they are I was thinking we could up the price on them, since they are selling so well right now. I mean maybe just by a dollar," Lui suggested handing me some candied almonds to put on my vanilla cake.
Mr. Mole rat, (I'm calling him that, it suits him,) gave a laugh and walked away. "It's useless, Lui. He'll never understand how hard we work." I told him, once again. He always got so excited every time Mr. Mole rat would say something about our creations, that he always brought up a raise. Although, it would be nice to get one, Lui and I were the hardest workers here. "We're almost done for today, we just have to ship these orders and we can go!" He exclaimed, practically screaming. I laughed and nodded. Right when I was happy, one of my co-workers paid us a visit, her name is Trisha, she's a lot like a dog. If you catch my drift. "I just got a raise, too bad you didn't get it, Crimson,...I mean, you could use it, being how your baby's daddy isn't in your life. Too bad he isn't, but one night stands never stick around." Trisha laughed. "You should know that, being that all of your kids are by different men. And you can't even remember the dad's names." I laughed back at her, Lui gave me a high -five under the table. Trisha strutted off. Him and I laughed so hard, "Good one!"
Lui offered for Aiden and I to come to dinner with him and some of his friends. I agreed. I told him 6 o' clock would be awesome, since I have to pick up Aiden at 5. He thought that it would be great if he took us to a place that had people singing while you ate. It was called, 'Dinner & A Show!'
