Chapter 18: We're just friends now

After talking for a while, Connor gives me a small nod and smile and turn away to walk back to his car. I grab his arm and make him look at me, "friends?"

He smiles and nods, "Of course, Tessa."

I smile back at him and walks to his car. I watch him get into his car and I close the door. I turn around to see my mom getting her bag.

"Hey, Momzilla." I say with a smirk on my face. My mom hates it when I call her that.

"Don't call me that, Tessa!" She says and grabs her keys off a hook on the wall. "I'm going to the doctors." She says calming and I look at my shoes. My mom has cancer. I don't ask her about it because I'll just start crying so I don't exactly know what type. I would hate knowing that she could die any day and leave us forever. Not only is she my mom but she is also my best friend that I trust and tell everything.

She grabs my hands and gives me a sad smile, "Everything will be okay, sweetie. Trust me."

Trust me.

I feel tears in my eyes. Now you know why I don't like talking about it or why I never mention it to anyone. Ever. I'm not even sure that Trinity knows about it or Nick. Or Tyler. Or Connor. I can make a long list of people who don't know. I pretty sure that Aiden knows though. I mean, I've known the guy my whole life. I told him when my mom was rushed to the hospital after something went wrong.

That day I knew that he wanted to ask questions but he knew that I would start crying my eyes out. I was only 9 at the time that it happened.

I nod at her and wipe away the tears in my eyes, "I'll make dinner for you."

"Oh, sweetie! You don't have to-"

"I want to, mom." I say and smile at her.

"Okay, I'll be home soon." She says and kisses my forehead.

Hours past by and my mom was still not home. I start to worry. I had finished making mac and cheese for everyone a hour ago. My brother was home and watching tv while doing homework. My dad still had one more hour of work until he goes home. I walk up the stairs after taking a nap on the couch. As I almost step into my room I start to hear laughing. Aiden's laugh and a girl laugh.

I walk into the room and look out the window. Aiden was laying on his side and a girl was sitting on his bed, watching a movie. They were throwing popcorn into each other's mouth and laughing.

That little-

"So that's Tessa?" A girl says softly and takes Aiden's phone. I freeze at the sound of my name.

"Huh. I didn't think you were into red heads."

I'm going to kill-

"Actually her hair is strawberry blonde."

The girl scoffs, "Same thing, Aiden."

"No it's not." Aiden says and starts tickling her. The girl- who in guessing is Emma- bursts out laughing and tries to push Aiden off her.

No wonder they dated. I think to myself.

The girl had beautiful platinum blonde hair that was up to her shoulders with eyes the color of the ocean, blue. She looks beautiful. No wonder why Aiden fell in love with her. This girl looked so beautiful that she doesn't even look real.

"Tessie." Aiden says when he notices me and backs away from Emma and starts walking over to the window. "Look-"

"You want to spend some time with her instead of me. I understand." I say and look at Emma who is staring at me.

"Yeah.. I mean no. Wait.." he says, looking at Emma and then at me. Jerk.

"Hello, Tessa." Emma says.

Wtf! She even has the voice of an angel. Who is this girl?

Hello boyfriend stealing bitch. Is what I wanted to say but I decided to be nice...or at least pretend to be.

"Hey Emma." I say back to her and give her a fake smile.

"Tessie..."

"Come on, Aiden! You're missing the best part of the movie!" Emma says and pats the bed besides her.

Aiden ignores her and keeps on staring at me in thought. "Tessie, we're just friends now." He says calmly, looking at me.

"Are you referring to me and you or to you and Emma?" I ask him and he opens his mouth to say something but I cut him off, "Because I think we're just friends. We'll always be just friends." I say a little too harshly and storm out of the room. Slamming the door shut.

What have you done, Tessa? Is the only thing that I can think of.
