Just so you know, I wasn't on my period; I'm not due until a few more weeks. So ha!

"Everyone's talking about you and Max", Harper stated.
We had just come back from school and were walking to my house.

"I know. News travels fast here", I replied. Harper nodded in agreement.

It was true- I wasn't really surprised that a day after we had held hands everyone was talking about us- Max was one of the most popular boys at school (alongside Harvey), so naturally, they were interested in his love life.

But the best part was Harvey's face when he saw or heard about Max and I, which was all the time. He looked so grumpy it was as if he was the one on his period, or should I say: man-period. He would scowl and glower at us whenever we walked past him or stood within a 15m radius.

When we arrived at my house, my parents had already come back from work and were arguing as usual.

"Wanna come to mine?" Harper asked me, with an understanding look. I nodded gratefully.

You see, my parents fight a lot. Most of the time it's just small disagreements- bickering, but right now my mum was having a real go at my dad. But it definitely wasn't as bad as two months ago, when Harvey and I were still together.  I don't really know what to do about it, my 19 year old brother Caleb is away at university so he can't really help, and most of my family are in Manchester or Ireland. I guess I'm just waiting for them to get a divorce.

Flashback

"What do you mean you can't afford Caleb's college fees? You said you could!" I heard my mother shout at my dad.

"I can but it's quite a stretch with how bloody expensive it is", my father replied, frustrated.

"Oh, your new job's pay wasn't enough? I would have thought that teaching at a fancy pants boys school right in  Central London would give you a bit of money".

"A bit more money than last time maybe but not enough. And it's not my fault that my new job has to be all the way in London, maybe Caleb should have been smart enough to get that scholarship he applied for".

"How could you say that? He was still smart enough to get into Oxford!"

"Don't make me the bad guy here! Why haven't you been talking to your sister? She's trying to get in touch with you after all these years yet you won't even let her see Lily and Caleb. Heck, I don't think they've even met Madge!"

"What happens between me and my sister is strictly out of  your business Gerald!"

I was still sitting on the staircase when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around to meet Caleb. "Why aren't you asleep?" He asked me softly.

"I can't sleep", I replied, but we both knew what that really meant.

Caleb sighed and reached to grab my hand. "Come on", he said as he lead me back to my bedroom.

"When are they going to get  divorced?" I asked him.

"I don't know", he said truthfully, before pulling me into a hug. "But you should really go to sleep".

I couldn't go to sleep at all that night. All I could hear was shouting and crying. I never fully appreciated how good it was to live in a detached house until now. When morning finally came, my mother had circles under her eyes and my father was no where to be seen.

"Where's Dad?" I asked her.

"Left early for work", she replied. I nodded but I knew it was a lie.

My family was falling apart right before my eyes and I didn't know what to do about it.
