I see her. I see her. I think it's her.
Gosh, this excitement is really too much for me. My chest and head are hurting, but I ignore them. Probably just my diabetes acting up.
A younger girl pulls her by the hand. The elder's eyes stare at the ground, seeming bored. For a second, my faith falters. She doesn't look like someone expecting anything other than an afternoon of reading. But then her face lifts, and I can see her expression- it looks cautiously excited.
The younger girl makes a beeline for me, and the teenager lets her go, dismissively but kindly.
"Hey, Miss Flora!"
I crane my head, trying to keep the other girl in sight. But I don't want to be rude, so, like often of late, I force a grin at Vivian.
"Hello, Miss Vivi, how are you?"
"Well, today Todd asked Mariela out and..."
As the preteen chatters on, I surreptitiously glance at the gold watch hanging off my bony wrist.
