Y/N's POV

*time skip*

Its been over a week since Carolina, Wash, and I left the planet. Some reporter showed up with news about the UNSC getting it's ass handed to it by blue and red soldiers. The Freelancers and I have been searching for any living freelancers. As one could expect, we have not yet located any.

We looked for Agent Arizona on a mountain planet after finding no traces of Agent California.

"The last I heard of Ari (pronounced aerie) was when she was assigned to sim trooper training base on the mountain planet," Wash said.

"Its worth a look," I sided with him. Carolina silently agreed.

That night, Wash told me why Carolina wasn't very fond of Arizona.

"Arizona was an amazing person when I met her at Freelancer," he said with a child-like wonder in his eyes. "Ari worked harder than anyone else at Freelancer. Carolina didn't really mind her until Ari knocked her down the leaderboard." He laughed before continuing, "The rest of us always joked saying that Carolina told the Director to send her to a training base, but who knows. We never saw her at Freelancer again."

We went airborne again early the next morning, and we entered the atmosphere of Arizona's planet a few hours later. I released several camera drones to scan the surface for life forms and structures. After a while, the drones found a temple-like structure on the north west area of a mountain range.

"We gotta start somewhere," I said, and we headed that way.

Carolina landed the pelican on what appeared to be an unused landing pad at the base of the temple. As we exited the pelican, my attention was immediately drawn to the bodies of several soldiers in red and blue armor. Unlike most of Freelancer's simulation outposts, this one looked like a war zone.

[Have you noticed the stairs yet?]

That's cancer. I'm gonna die.

"Do we have a jeep or something that will go up stairs?" Wash said somberly. He then asked me, "Wanna race?" He gave a fearful, depressed chuckle.

"Sure."

Hey Andy, can the teleportation unit get me up there?

[If I were to transfer more of your suits energy to it, then theoretically, yes. I can get you to the top.]

What are you waiting for then?

A millisecond later, I appeared looking at the opening of the temple. I turned around to look down the stairs, and Carolina and Wash were a third of the way from the bottom.

"Andy, you are amazing," I said aloud.

[Tell me something I don't already know.]

I turned back around to look at the temple. There were four hammocks set up around the opening, and hundreds of scratch marks resembling tally marks on the stone wall.

Carolina reached the top a little less than a minute later with Wash slowly crawling behind her.

"Y/N," Wash said exhaustedly. "That was cheating."

Both Carolina and I laughed, but the mood immediately changed when a bullet flew past our heads. Wash shot to his feet as Carolina spun around to face our attacker. They wore grey armor with cyan trim which looked very similar to Wash's. We stood in silence for what felt like an eternity until the attacker broke the silence.

"Wash?" She asked looking straight at him.

"Ari? We've been looking for you," Wash said, most likely with a smile on his face. She loosened up a little, but was still tense.

"Who's that one?" She pointed at me.

"Oh, this is Y/N," Wash started as he walked toward Arizona. "She was as imprisoned by both the Director and Chairman Hargrove, so we trust her to not be on their side."

Arizona still didn't reply, so Wash continued to talk about what had been going on the past few months.

This could take a while.

"Should we stop him?" I asked Carolina. Neither of us had moved an inch.

"Lets see how long this plays out," she answered.

I sat down.

Eventually Wash stopped talking and Arizona said, "Yo soy depremido."

That night, Arizona told us what had happened to her on this planet. When Wash asked what happened to the Reds and Blues, she answered, "oh we all agreed to it. They wanted to see who was the best shot, and they learned. I also 'forgot' to switch back to my training bullets." After a moment of silence, she continued, "they asked the day before if heaven was real, and I was like, why don't you find out."

"So," Carolina started. "Is it real?"

"I don't know, why don't you ask the reds and blues. They're the ones that know."

After a piercing silence, Arizona bursted out laughing.

"What's so funny?" I asked.

"I'm sorry," she said laughing. "Its not my fault. Zeta wouldn't shut up!"

"Wait, you still have your AI?" Wash exclaimed.

"Yes! And its had no negative side effects! None whatsoever!" She yelled with a tone that said the opposite.

"How though? I thought the Meta would have been able to track it."

"Yeah, I fixed that." She answered.
"And what about Zeta? AIs don't last forever, how long has he been in your head?" Carolina asked.

"Uh.. Yes"
