                                                                                      Part 3

                                                 Rejection

“Yeah, Parker knows” I say.  Parker is my other best friend. At first I

Thought telling him about my dad would be risking our relationship.

I mean who would want to be around a girl whose dad is slowly dying.

“Well that’s a relief” She said “So how’s your dad”

“According to my mother he’s getting worse “I say slightly tightening my fist.

“WHAT??” It felt as if everyone in the café turned their head to look at us.

“Shhhhhhhh...” I practically yelled, spit flying.

“How is that even possible?” She asked shocked.

“Well that’s the thing my mom wouldn’t even tell me why or how” I spotted Parker from the corner of my eye. He was approaching our table.

“Hey, Is something wrong ?” He asked putting his tray on the table and his arm around my shoulder.

“Oh, nothing really” Sadie says to assure him

“Yeah, don’t worry about it we were talking about…… a dead squirrel we saw

Outside my house” I lied, only because the last thing I needed is to attract attention to myself.

“Ok, well I was wondering if you wanted to hang out this weekend.” He asked squeezing my shoulder (in a friendly way).

“Well I was actually going to go visit my dad this weekend, your welcomed to come if you want.”

“Oh, Ok” He looked disappointed like he had something extravagant planned.

“I’m sorry” I mumbled looking down at the ugly gray tiles on the floor.

After school Parker walked me home. He lived a block over, so it wasn’t a really big deal. My house was on the way to his.

“Is something wrong? , Something with your dad?” He asked

I hesitated “Ummm… everything’s fine” I lied again. The last thing I needed

Was for him to be worrying, especially about me.

“So is he getting better?” He asked staring at the grass.

“Yeah. He. Is” Lying was never my strong suit.

“Well that’s good” He answered. I had to have him believe everything was ok. We

Stopped in our tracks, I noticed we were outside of my house.

“See you tomorrow” He said

“Bye” I replied as he walked down the street to his house.

I opened the front door and walked in.

“Food” I thought as my stomach growled in agreement. I made my way to the kitchen, egger to find something to eat. On the fridge was a neon green sticky

Note, the ones you can’t miss even if you try.
