Chapter 1

Shaylie's POV
I was living next door to the Lynch's my whole life and Ratliff was my older brother. We never were really home, we practically lived at the Lynch's but they didn't mind. Rydel was my best friend even though she's a few years older than me. I was Ross's age. I was getting ready for a date and I had Rydel and Rose over helping me get ready. I was going out on a 'date' with Carter. He was my best guy friend that I go to school with and he has always liked me. He finally had the courage to ask me out so I said yes. I made sure he knew I didn't think of him like that. He understood and told me he'd pick me up at 8. He also told me to wear something casual but hot. I laughed and nodded. I went home and called up Rydel and Rose in a three-way call. I told them about Carter and they started teasing me. They thought I was started to like him but I didn't! I like the hottie of our school Tyler but he would never notice me. I tried giving up on liking him but it never worked. Rose and Rydel got to my house at about 6:30 and started helping me get ready. Rose was good with fashion and Rydel was good with hair and makeup and I was good at accessorizing. We called Rose, Thorn sometimes just because. "Thorn, what color are you picking out? I don't want to wear a dress. I want to wear jeans and a shirt!" I whined. She rolled her eyes at me and threw a pair of jeans at me jokingly. I laughed at her attempt of being mad and then she started laughing. We were talking about the date when Ross barges in my room. "Hey Ross?" I said. "Everything okay?" Rydel says. He ignores Rydel and comes up to me. "How could you not tell me you are going on a date? What if I don't approve? Is it Tyler? Where are you going? Who is it with?" He throws a million questions at me. Ross was sometimes like the extra overprotective brother. "One- I don't know, I guess I forgot. Two- You will approve, I think. Three- No, it's not Tyler, He will never notice me. Four- I don't know, he hasn't told me. And five- Carter, I don't like him though. It's just a fun date I guess." I answered. I must've said date very loud or something because next thing I know Ratliff is in my room throwing more questions at me. "I don't know where we are going Carter hasn't told me yet!" I screamed. "Carter? This won't ruin your friendship, will it?" Ratliff asked. "It shouldn't. I hope not!" I started getting so freaked out. Rose came up to me and comforted me as Rydel shooed the boys out of my room. "Guys, what if something bad happens. I don't want this to ruin our friendship like Ratliff said." I finally say. "Is it just me or was Ross really freaked out?" Thorn finally said ignoring me. "He's always like that when I go on a date. Wait, no he's not. This is my first date. Do you think, no he couldn't." I started having a conversation with myself. Rydel snapped me out of it and told me that he liked Laura. I let out a sigh of relief and then the doorbell rang. "Is this too dressy?" I asked Carter opening the door. "Nope, it's perfect!" His face lit up when we saw me. "Shall we?" He spoke again. "Let's go!" I let out a little giggle and then we were on our way.
